    Disconnecting the gas line?

A buddy of mine says he always disconnects the gas line from the motor and then runs the motor until it starts to sputter to rid it of ethanol gas after every fishing trip even though he uses Marine Sta-Bil or some form of ethanol treatment. Is this harmful to the motor or is it a wise thing to do?

That is old school and not recommed anymore. To big of a chance of oil starving todays engines running them out of gas.

Thanks rangerguy. Does that apply to today's 4 stroke engines as well?

Re: Disconnecting the gas line? (VTFan)

I had a 1989 mariner I never took the gas line off to run the fuel out. Same with my 2006 yamaha. I even left a half full tank of fuel in the boat all winter and it ran fine this spring. All my friends with boats never run the fuel out of them 2 stroke or 4 stroke. I can't speek for my friends but I have never used seafoam or stable in any of my gas. My 4 wheelers have had the same fuel in them since last summer and still run fine.

I wouldn't run anything I own out of fuel on purpose.
