Setting up a Shadow Mod V 20' bass boat

Hi Ace. You can take a rubber mallet or hammer and "ta, tap tap" around the back of the transom. It should be "tap tap tap". If it goes "tap tap thud", then that sucks. Thuds are bad. taps are good. lol

Also, trim your motor up all the way without a support under it. Then push down (bounce) on the prop and lift up and down and see if you have any deflection on your transom. It should be rock solid. If you see movement, then you know what it's gonna take to fix her. You don't have to pop the whole top - can do just a back-half-cut if needed. I can give you all the info you ever wished to know. lol

That's awesome..... I have an 1988 20' Shadow tunnel hull. The transom rot has always scared me. How can you tell that the transom is starting to rot? Thanks

they used a mohagony plywood for transom and knees,over time they all rot,here's one I gutted 2 winters ago

only the full width of the transom was removed and the knees,everything else was solid. I will hopefully have the time to get this one back together this year.

Here's 3 of the yellow prototype. But as I understand it this boat's been sold. Same hull as my Shadow but with a modernized cap, console, etc. The last one is the photo on the new website still under construction. Note: I don't know if this photo will be used on the final version of their website. Hope this holds ya over til more can be posted.

I believe I am purchasing this blue boat that was supposedly built by Brent at Evangelist. It says cougar on the side of it in the pic that was posted and I was told it was built by Tom Poore at Cougar but it is identical to the yellow boat posted there also. Anyone here have any info?

So a few years later and all is great in boat. Has been running mid 70's. I have it torn down now and just put in solid mounts and tightened things up in the back. Sea star steering is fabulous. Motor is now rock solid. Putting it back together Friday night or Saturday. Hope to break 80's now. motor was moving around on me so did not want to push it.
