    How to remove PVS plugs???

Anyone know how I can get the PVS plugs out of my Laser 2 prop without destroying them? My holeshot is a tad sluggish and I think I can improve it by removing the plugs. I just want to be able to reuse them if I need to!

On another note, is there a better prop for top speed? I have a 2013 Triton Explorer 17 with a Merc 115 ProXS. The current prop is a Laser 2 in a 21P. I have a 6" jackplate installed.

Top speed currently fully loaded with two people is 52.3 mph GPS at 5670 RPM. Prop is around 3.5" below pad. Are these reasonable numbers or can I get some more?

I keep reading the Laser 2 is a good all-around prop but is lacking in top speed. I don't know if this motor will turn a small Fury or if they even make a Fury small enough.

    Help appreciated!

52 mph with a 115... What speeds are you expecting?

Not really expecting anything. Just want to squeeze all the performance out she has to offer! That's why I asked if this is reasonable or not. Never owned a 115.

24 fury is the smallest they make. May try a tempest. Not sure what pitch you need. I had to drop a pitch when I changed from a lazer2 to a tempest. I just took a small flat screwdriver and popped the plugs out of mine.

I prefer to use a 3/8 socket and extention to push the plug through, instead if trying to pull them back out... Try it.

Don't think you'll be able to run much other than a Lazer II or a Trophy in the Merc props since you have the small gear case. If you are looking for a little more get with Mark and get him to work his magic, helped my Lazer II out alot. Just for reference I run a 22P Lazer II that Mark worked and can get 50 out of my Fish and Ski.

you're not lacking top speed....52 gps with that 115 is very good. Do what Mark said to remove the plugs, it works great without messing up the plugs. Once you have your holeshot dialed in, you're done!

Only take one out at a time test drive it and you shouldn't have to put any back.

It sounds like you have it about dialed in already. The only other thing I would try is a 22P Laser II then try to run it higher to keep the RPM up. It may or may not work but that would be the only other thing to try. You are pretty limited on props with that motor. A Trophy will probably get you a better hole shot but top speed will drop slightly.

I’m curious. Can you explain how you use a lace to remove vent plugs.

I've tried the socket extension trick to pop them "in" to remove them. The only problem with that method is if you are dialing in a prop on the water along the shore there is no way you are going to get that plug out of the hub without removing the prop.

You can also drill the holes in the plug larger to help venting with out taking the prop off or buying new plugs.

I've tried that. How do you hold the plug from spinning once the tip of the bit starts to break through??

Use a sharp bit and go up in size slowly with a high speed....

Some use a paint can opener...
