    I need opinions on a 1998 Johnson 200 venom.

People, I found a boat for sale that I am thinking of purchasing. Its a Ranger R91 with a 1998 200hp Venom on it. I have absolutly no experience with Johnson motors so I need some input. The guy did tell me that sometimes it will die if it sits at idle for too long, escpecially on a cold morning? What could that be? I just need to know if this is overall a good engine or do they tend to have issues? Any knowlege will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Great motors but do like the fuel. Could possibly need an idle speed adjustment, or possibly need just a new primer bulb. No major problems with them.

Someone told me that some of the parts for these engines were obsolete? If this is true, are there replacements that I could buy should I need to fix it?

Carb bodies are obsolete, as are the decals.

So, Champ, what is the option if you have a problem with your carb bodies?

Find a parts motor. Generally the bodies don't have an issue. If that is the only reason to avoid the purchase I sure wouldn't sweat it.
