speaking of trim sender adjust....has yours broken yet?????

'xcuse the rant, just need to vent.

I was reading the thread about adjusting your trim sensor and was wondering how many of you have had the old style plastic one break????????

    Evidently I am not alone.
Mine broke and when I called to see if they had the part I was told "You bet, we buy those buy the case. Can't keep em in stock".

Looks easy enough, but I got a little frustrated installing the new one because on my VMax when you install it properly with the nipple on the band in the dimple on the arm it doesn't read. Looked like an easy adjustment but wasn't. Finally asked for help and a guy w/ a 250 HPDI said he had the same problem, flattened down the nipple, adjusted it correctly and then just tightened down the screw real tight without the nipple being in the dimple.

I ended up doing the same thing.

My buddy with a 150 4 stroke had his plastic one break. We swung in and grabbed him a replacement and I warned him it was not going to be as easy as it looks. I told him if he was real lucky it might work, if he was sorta lucky he might could adjust it to work and if he was like me and my other buddy there was no way it was going to work without banging the nipple down. I also warned him he would be covered with grease so wear an old shirt and would get frustrated trying to snake around the hydraulic steering. He laughed at me.

Two days later he called me and said "I got it on there easy enough but it doesn't read right and now I'm frustrated and covered with grease".

    So...........
how many of these are breaking?
why isn't this part a recall?
why are they charging us waaaay too much money for the replacement?
Why doesn't the replacement they charge us too much for work?????
If it doesn't work right on a big block 250 HPDI, a small block 150 VMax or a 4 stroke....just what the heck does it work on?????

Yes, the OLD ONES break. They now have a metal one and I guess you can replace the old with the new. I don't know for sure because I have a bunch of plastic ones and will continue to use them until I'm out. They seem to last about two years, then POP!

I don't get covered in grease because I keep it clean up under there.

Mine broke about a year or two ago. Didn't have the metal ones out yet (or at least I couldn't find them). Replaced with the same plastic model. I didn't have any issues changing it though. If/When it does break again, I will go with the metal version.

Yeah these things have been breaking for years, I am using up the last of the extra plastic ones I've bought before I install the new metal one (kit # 99999-03830) from boats.net

That 99999 number is the kit number on the "Genuine Yamaha" pkg. It says it contains one each of the folowing 64E-43139-10, and 90159-05059. Hope that helps.

    Re: (mikeky)

Just replaced mine with the metal and on my motor was anything but easy. Had to use a socket with philips head to tighten it down as there was no way to get a screwdriver under my steering cable brackets. Oh and was covered with grease also.

Mine broke, replaced it with the metal one.
Does anyone else have problems with the trim gauge reading slow when trimming?
If I'm trimming it out the gauge is always behind so it doesn't help much at that point.

Re: speaking of trim sender adjust.. ... (brianranger188vx)

I just replaced mine on my 150 this week. It lasted 4 1/2 yrs. It only took me about 30 mins. to replace it and adjust it. Was pretty simple if you ask me.

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I think I set a record! My original plastic version just hit 17 years old before finally giving up. Just replaced it with the metal one.

Lol. I went through all that myself about 2 months ago... Had all the right parts, but musta came loose. Fought with it for over 2 hours to get it perfect. For anyone who may still care... On mine the nipple on the tube did not line up. I had to do it manually and tighten it down.

Mine is also slow to respond and sometimes doesn't respond at all and then all of a sudden it responds. I can't even bring it in for repair because on land if I push the sender lever up and down with my finger it works great! In the water it's To slow to respond and I can't get anyone to spend time to see it! Anyone else have this piece of junk?
