Not a worship leader or production guy, but I've been playing guitar at church for 15ish years now. I'll throw in my $.02 and probably get change back......

What do you use for in-ear monitors, Nick? My old church in Vicksburg used to have a big monitor board, stage right, out of view of the congregation. But they went to the Aviom system, as did my current church in Madison. I like the Avioms 10x better, because each person can mix their own monitor without having to flag down the monitor guy and communicate with hand signals what they wanted. Very handy.....

I'm not playing this week, but this is the set list:

Because of Your Love - Paul Baloche
This is How We Know - Matt Redmon
    One Thing Remains - Vineyard
    The Stand - Hillsong
Proof of Your Love - For King and Country, I think is the name of the group

Daniel, you are certainly welcome in here, I'd like to include everybody that has anything to do with worship ... Our pastor just signed a contract yesterday for new sound and lighting equipment for the new building. I don't know the specs on most of the equipment, but I do know that we are getting a 32 channel digital board (16 Aux sends) to control FOH and monitors (same scenario as now, except analog board and only 4 Aux's) We will be getting an arrayed + subs FOH, and 10 new ear monitors (don't know what kind), wedges and or side fills. We only have one ear monitor now and it's a Shure, and the drummer uses headphones. Pastor will get a new Countryman mic.

Roy, we will do an all Christmas set on the 23rd, trying to work up what songs we'll be doing on that. I heard last night at pratice the Tomlin Joy to the World was going to be one of them. We also started working on a new song, King of Glory - Jesus Culture (Mellissa How version), it's gonna be awesome, because we rocked it up just a little more... our lead guitar player comes from a metal background and he's been able to squeeze in some pretty "nasty" licks (Malmsteen-esque LOL)

Wow yall have given me a ton of new material to work on, I like a lot of those songs. I have no idea what we are doing this Sunday because we had to skip practice due to a few of us being out of town. I do the majority of all my lead stuff by improvising and doing a lot of swells and ambient stuff. We did do the Joy to the World by Tomlin last week to start easing people into Christmas Music. Trying to convince the other guys to let us do Carol of the Bells TSO style at least once.

A few years ago, my old church asked me to come back and play their Christmas program. We did a version of Carol of the Bells that was the same kind of style as TSO's, but pretty different. Different key, different arrangement, and had a violinist playing part of it. My new church also wanted me to play in their Christmas program, and they were doing TSO's version exactly as it is on the record. Ain't no way I could do two different versions of the same song like that the same weekend, so I had to pick one.

I spent the day prepping the 25 wireless earset mics for our Christmas production. As far as in ears go, are we talking molds or stock ears?

Ultimate Ears UE7's are pretty dang great sounding, the jH audio stuff sounds really good too. The Sennheiser G2/G3 stuff is very good, but the Shure PSM-900 system is pretty hard to beat, unless you happen to have an old PSM-600 system on a frequency that works for you. The PSM-600 stuff was the best sounding IEM wireless system ever, IF you had a clear channel and didn't get interference.

Does anyone have a chart for Carol of the bells, or do your musicians just memorize it from the recording?

I found a copy from our church's music website. I can't attach it here, but give me your email and I'll send it to you as a PDF.

Can you get it off CCLI? Not sure what model Shure ear monitors (only one set) we have, but I'll look in the morning... it came from the new building's stock. I do know that since we have been using it, we have to unplug the power when the pastor speaks, or it interferes with his mic... we have chased channels on both wireless mics and the ear monitors, but nothing helps. Hopefully I'll get the specs on the new stuff before long.. I do know now that the board is a new Behringer (yeah, I know) X32 digital desk, but it is supposedly a new collaboration with Midas. Supposed to be kinda similar to an LS9.... Looks pretty interesting, if it works... I didn't have ant input on the selection..

    Really!

I didn't know what ever happened to Jason.. after he left football (inside joke), I think he went to Little Rock or something. I ran sound for him on a couple gigs when I was at New Salem back around 8-10 years ago. Great guy!!! Tell him I said hello, but he may not remember me. I still love his song "In the Deep", one of my all time favorites...

It's a small world, ain't it? Jason is definitely cream of the crop, but I don't see him much. Our church, Pinelake, has 4 different campuses. The main one out on Hwy 25 headed east out of Jackson, Madison, Clinton, and Starkville. He leads at the Clinton campus, I'm normally in Madison. But the next time I see him, I'll for sure tell him you said hey. If you remember the other guys in his band, Topher Brown was his guitar player, he's leading us this week in Madison. And his drummer, Justin Teasley, plays drums with us some.
