The descriptions are on their website. Just look at the regional blocks for each product.

Hotmaps Platinum is US and Canada regional mostly freshwater.

Platinum+ is world-wide regions, fresh and saltwater.

Nice write up on the safety importance on good mapping and some of the more advanced features from those who own Navionics cards. Thought this might get some good views here.

Purging my Nav+ card will erase all of my downloaded data as well as the preloaded maps according to the site. Just confirming before I do it and that's OK with me as I mainly fish in Eastern Canada so having less data on the card for my units to work through is perfectly fine.

Hey Fisherman64. Do you know how to return to your route after selecting spot lock on helix 10? I selected go to position for about 20 waypoints along a path to form a route as my wife and I like to troll. When my wife caught a fish, I selected spot lock to avoid the shore line while I helped her land the fish in the boat. Once all was done, I wanted to continue on my route but couldn't find out how without reselecting every waypoint in order again. Is there an easier way?

    I appreciate your time! Thanks

I heard Lowrance units can share a single navionics card, does this not apply to Helix units? Trying to share a single Hotmaps between Helix 10 and Helix 9 via network and it seems to either not be possible or I’m missing something?

could the units not being updated on software versions be the cause?

No, Helix units do not share map data and neither did the number series.

    ONIX and SOLIX do.

Thank you! So purchase 2x map cards if you want the detailed contour lines on both units. Probably the incorrect place to ask this, but do you know if the autochart shares between the two? If I set up the console unit to autochart, scan over a point, will the front unit display the colored contour depths as well?

No mapping of any kind is shared with Helix units.

I have 2 new helix mega 12 si units and I have a hot map premium south that I bought in 2011 and it works fine but it does not show the contours for lake Jordan where I live. I have been using it in the past with a 1198 and it showed all lakes including lake Jordan. The other lakes in the area show fine on the helix. Any thoughts. Card has gone bad or what.

That is an interesting issue. I would have to say the best route is to contact help@navionics.com. I have never run across this issue, but I would have to say that updating your card would be highly beneficial.

Also, since you have two units and one old card that you can't use in both at the same time, you should think about buying the Updates card, which will use your old Premium card to activate the subscription and turn it into Navionics+, which is the latest and greatest Navionics card for half the price. It would be a shame to have two great, and expensive, units and not have great mapping cards for both.

db_hud - I second the Navionics+ card as well. You have two brand new units and an updated map card with the newest features would be a good tool to parlay them new units. Still follow Cap' Solo advise as well and contact Navionics, then you'll have a card for each unit.

Probably the dumbest question(s) of the day...but....
#1. I have Navionics Boating App on my android cell phone. Works fine but the screen is hard to see in the sunlight.

#2. Yesterday, I managed to ground my little tinny boat just outside of the Anahuac, Texas channel N29 43.895 W 094 42.669

#3. I called my Towing service, after trying to haul her off myself for 20 or 30 minutes. It was in the 80's at the time. I've never even had a towing service until last year ( I am 78 now) and haven't ever needed one in 50 or 60 years of boating.

After I looked at my Navionics chart on my phone, I could easily see that I had run out of enough water to float a normal boat about two hundred yards back from whence I came! My little tinny is new to me, but she was floating in 5 to 8 inches of water. When I got to 3 inches of water, even she couldn't handle it.

Anyhow, after all of that, I thought that perhaps adding a Navionics card to my --new-to-me-- Humminbird 587 ci hd would be in order.

My first thought was to put the Lat/Long into the demo program on the site. I wasn't able to find any way to put a destination in using lat/long ? Can one do that on a Navionics program?

Second, the map showing where my boat was aground just showed a big green area, I guess reflecting that that entire 1/4 square mile location is not usable for most boaters. That is exactly the same data that showed on my Android phone Navionics app.

I guess my surprise is that the mapping software shown on the site doesn't seem to be any more detailed than the Navionics app that I already own. Is that so?

99% of my boating these days is in known areas. I can see the Navionics Phone App alright if I hold it in a shadow. My question is, if the data is the same, and the only thing that I would gain was having the same data on my FishFinder screen, is there a justification to spend $200.00 ( I guess that is what the chip would cost me) just to have it on my FF screen?

    thanks, richg99
