On navionics + preloaded card when I put in my helix 7 does it automatically show the sonar charts or do you have to select them somehow? I've already updated and downloaded sonar charts for the areas I fish.. I'm not seeing much detail on these lakes

You have to select the FishNChip map layer to see Sonar Charts.

I'm looking at Navionics cards and noticing on CF and microSD/SD, which one will work in an Onix as well as a Helix?

MicroSD with SD adapter. The Helix 5 and Helix 7 use the microSD without the adapter.

Very few units have a Compact Flash card reader.

Is the HotMaps Platinum worth the extra $$ over the Navionics+?

The Hotmaps Platinum has extra features---Satellite Overlay, 3D, and photos. It has Navionics maps (Nautical Charts) and can have Sonar Charts downloaded also. It is a regional product. I do not use the extra features.

The Navionics+ Preloaded has Nautical Charts for the US and Canada and can have Sonar Charts downloaded to it. That is the same price as the Hotmaps Platinum---$199 MSRP.

The newest product is Navionics+ Regional with the same regions that Hotmaps Platinum has and comes with Nautical Charts and Sonar Charts preloaded. That is the price of the discontinued Hotmaps Premium regional cards---$149 MSRP

I will be going with the South regional either way, a board sponsor has the HM Platinum for the same as the +'s MSRP. But they also have the HM Premium available for less, what is the difference between Platinum and Premium?

The Premium regional product was discontinued around the end of 2015. It only has Nautical Charts.

Whichever you choose, it includes a year of Freshest Data updates IF you register the card when you get it (have 60 days to do that).

The Premium cannot be renewed after the year is up, and the others can be.

    http://www.navionics.com/en/which-chart-right-for-you

Here's a list of what you get from each card. The new Navionics Regions is not yet updated but essentially is the same thing as Navionics Premium but now comes with SonarChart layer.

Did I read somewhere that you could download one lake at a time for $10? The reason I ask is my Uncle is wanting a Navionics card for his Onix 8 but he fishes only one lake exclusively which happens to be covered by Navionics. He doesn't want to buy a $150 card for one lake and I was thinking I saw where you could get just one lake, is that true? If so what do you need? Thanks.

No that is not a Navionics product.

Lakemaster sells single lake maps with their Chart Select program. The cost is based on the amount of data.
The map is downloaded to a formatted Encrypted memory card.

Ok, I thought I read about single lake maps somewhere but couldn't remember who offered it. Navionics is the only brand that offers this particular lake.

Doing a Navionics+ Freshest Data update and found this file on the card. Is that a Navionics file or did maybe my backup program write to the card when I used the USB adapter?

None of my cards have that file. Do you have a unit purchase package Navionics+ card instead of a purchased Navionics+ card?

It's a purchased card. The file name is similar to the file name my backup program assigns and when I use a USB reader it assigns it the same drive letter each time. Backup drive was not in when I had the Navionics card reader in and it assigned it as the F drive. BAck up program must have ran to it.

    Thanks.

Navionics+ card. How can I download just Texas on the Freshest Data Chart Installer. The Knowledge Base on Navionics shows UPDATE and DOWNLOAD tabs as options

However, the only option I have is UPDATE
