I live and fish mainly in Illinois. However 50%of my tournaments are on the Mississippi River, between Illinois and Iowa, Iowa and Wisconsin. I am also fishing a Lake in South Dakota this fall. which Mapping card will work the best. I have Gen 3's if the Illinois Chip will cover the Mississippi River pools 20 -7 I'd just get the east

What you need is the Navionics+ you can dowload the Sonarchart specifically for the waters you intent to fish.

Wallyandre's suggestion is spot on for what is best for the op. For the record if those here will review the thread, Wayne, Wallyandre and myself have made suggestions and tried to help Hans with his questions. I have spent a couple hours on this for him, most of it in PM's to him, offering help. I have volunteered that if he will send me his two cards for comparison, I would be glad to put them side by side in two new G3 12's and then report back. I offered in one PM for him to email me privately or call me and I would walk him through it. What more can we do?

Insulting everyones attempt to help others is misplaced and NO ONE here is trying to sell him anything. I and other Specialist recommend a product when the op asks or is confused about what product best meets the customers needs.
I can do nothing more than volunteer my time on a daily basis to help anyone who asks. Today alone I have probably already spent 3 hours of free help to those who have asked, almost all of it by text and private email that you never ever see.
Constant daily insults and attempts to provoke arguments and insult those trying to help others needs to cease. That does not help anyone.
If Hans wants further help, he can PM me or others here, and we will be glad to help him through this.

Right on what? I have posted multiple pictures for Tommy and he says that my pictures aren't like his. Mine and Hans are the exact same, all we want is someone to post some pictures of the "new" overlays. Yet nobody will do it. Seems like a easy thing to do instead of telling us "you have to buy a new card". Now once again I will post a picture and please tell me what difference there is between your card and mine.

I missed what you suggested to Hans, can you tell me what quote# it is or what thread it's in?


And what Tommy sees as "insults" are mearly questions to what he has posted here. Seems my questions are too blunt and to the point? I'm not a poet and I don't write eloquent phrases, I'm just not that smart.

Wow!! Actually Tommy you did say I had to get the new Platinum card a few months back to be able to do the incredible Depth Shading you had posted about. Well I got the new card and I just want to know where the new awesome depth shading is that you spoke so highly of. What I have on my new card is exactly like my old card and is exactly like what Grout has posted above. I appreciate that you spent hours sending me PM's that you could never get to go thru. Thanks for spending that time, but it never made it to me. Not your fault, but don't make it sound as if your information made it to me and I am just too stupid to understand it. You are pro staff for Lowrance and for Navionics. You are held to a higher standard than other opinions on this board. I am not trying to insult you don't insult me. Why would you need both my old and new card side by side in your graphs to make the depth shading work?? Mine looks exactly like the one above. What is different with what you have and have led others to believe they would get with a new card?

I have reviewed ALL of my in box and sent box... I have been 1000% polite and offered to help you and I can find nothing whatsoever at any time where you were insulted, called stupid or anything else. ???
Facts:
June 3rd 11:35a Hans sent me a PM asking about the mapping. I replied 12;14p told you I had spent a lot of time trying a response. AND, that the response went to error. I tried it again and it failed several times.
12:36 Hans says he got the short message about the error issues.
1:23 I sent him a short message that I was leaving my office, would get back later to help him. That was "The LAST" correspondence from me to Hans... just a note that it failed, and that I would try later and be happy to help. I have received NO images from him at all. Then Grout got involved for an unknown reason, doing what Grout does...and told Hans his PM box was full to empty it...I have no control over Hans PM reaching him.

Hans 1st message referenced a prior conversation which I do not recall. I searched all the way back to the first of the year. Nothing. He said in his recent PM that he had told me he had a 2013 card and that I recommended a "Newer" card. I stand by that comment as I normally do recommending the newest product for the latest up to date mapping.

At this very moment I am helping at least a half dozen anglers with their mapping and setup issues privately. They are ALL extremely nice, multiple phone conversations/emails and text with them and I have not had one single negative sarcastic or implied insult ever thrown at me. ALL of the guys I help are polite, appreciative and a pleasure to help. I seriously cannot recall even one A** in all of the projects with them.

These guys make all of this worthwhile for me. I take my phone and email time away from my kids and grandkids to do this many times. I was on the phone until after 10pm last night helping a guy and again first thing this morning. Typically about 3 hours per day in between my office business...but it is always a pleasure for me to help.... until this kind of misdirected anger.

I am out of this and will have no further dialogue with Hans or Grout...and will devote my time to ONLY those who are pleasant and appreciate my time and willingness to help them. Life is toooo short for this nonsense. If it continues and is no longer fun, I will totally stop the volunteer work.
Sry for the post but I will NOT have my character and good reputation demeaned.

Please read this thread. Who attacks who? I tried to help Hans and got blasted. So anyways, since Prostaff is the Navico & Lowrance expert he can have the board.

But for anybody else that is concerned about shading, the shading I posted above is all the cards are capable of shading wise. Yes, the new cards have satellite overlays and you can get updates as often as you want to if you update the card and the price is relatively inexpensive to renew.

All of this began a few months back when Tommy was posting about how great the new depth shading is and you have to have the "new" card for it. Nobody has attacked anyone…. I BELIEVE Tommy is being over defensive due to his keyboard was writing stuff that just doesn't exist. The depth shading is no different on the new cards than it was on the older cards. Period. I am sure Tommy has helped others here on the board. He has lots of knowledge I am sure. But in this case he had made a statement and is not able to back up his remarks. I should not have to send Tommy my 2 cards so he can look at them side by side. I have the brand new card. Tell me how you do the depth shading. It is not rocket science. The fact here is that the new card is no different from the older card when it comes to depth shading. If I am wrong show me.

HDETERS - Im pretty sure what I see there in the screenshots is what I got running Navionics and Lowrance Gen 3 with all the newest updates. I've seen different tricky ways to get more from the feature or at least a different perspective of it but I do believe you are up to date with what's available. I saw a great link posted by Tommy I believe in utilizing a Platinum card to get more. I know there's an older post floating around that had some step by step instruction with screenshots but I'm not sure it's not something you haven't already seen. Probably old news. Perhaps somebody can share of it even helps at all. Sorry for late reply, been fishing.. ;) Tight lines all!

The issue here seems to be the anglers who are buying the new cards misunderstanding the technology. They have plainly complained about no new features, nothing new in settings and menus etc. Totally misdirecting blame and anger at either Navionics or those of us who are instructing. Those "features,settings,menu changes among other complaints" are NOT on the card, which they do not understand, but are on the MFD itself. For their information, the card contains only DATA based on the cartography of each individual lake. ALL of the lakes being totally different based on what is available on that particular lake X18,000+/- lakes, X2000 fresh updates per day, X whichever card they are using....ever changing very fluid scenario.
Navionics can only make available what is available to them !! The map pictures are ALL different. Anglers are obviously expecting MFD (Lowrance in this example), unit changes and all lakes to display identical information which is neither possible nor reasonable...simply because they do NOT understand the technology that the MFD unit can only display what is on the card and Navionics can only give the information which they have.
Simple comparison...Buy a CD and it has data..and does not change the bass,treble, balance or anything else in the player itself..What is on the CD is what was mastered. Old CD's probably are not mastered as well as new ones. (Data is manipulated when remastered) Logically a quality difference. What they hear is determined solely by the data put on the CD, their choice of playback settings and the capabilities of their CD player. Surely it is easy to understand how the different settings chosen affect what they hear (and see in this case) and how it is different in different models and brands of playback units.
I am working on some sample (specific purpose mapping) and will post here whenever I get them completed.
