After a year of smoking and slowly declining performance, I pulled my six fuel injectors and sent them to Brucato for cleaning and balancing. They called back and asked if I had been having problems, because all six injectors were flooding at partial throttle and wide open throttle, even after cleaning. After discussing options, they performed an additional adjustment and were able to acheive all injectors' performance within 2% of spec and of each other at all three flow settings. Cost was $338 including shipping. Replacement injectors are $185 each.
I also installed a water-seperating fuel filter when I re-installed the injectors.
I finally got a chance to run it today. Much stronger hole shot and acceleration. Speedo went straight to 71 before beginning the slower climb to terminal speed. Wind was high, but still got 75.5 at only 5700 rpm on old plugs and gas (about 1mph better than normal). Also less smoke at start-up. The best part should be better gas mileage ($2.99/gallon today).
Overall this looks like money well spent. With the initial erratic nature of the injectors before cleaning, anything (including a blown powerhead) could have happened. Hopefully the additional filter will keep the injectors clean for a longer period of time.
