    Tach acting up

Took boat out yesterday morning. Boat ran great but tach starting acting up. It would shoot up to 6000 rpms showing on tach but motor not reving any faster. My normal WOT is 5400 with 2 people in Summer weather. I littler more in cooler weather. Most of the time tach was acting normal. What do I need to look at?

Check the connections first. Also, some tachs just go bad.

Is this a digital or analog tach?

I know this is way old, But I just happened to run across it. I am having this same problem with my tach occasionally. It works fine most of the time, however it does this every now and then. Is this just a "bug" of some sort, or is it a sign my tach may be going bad or what?

My tach acts crazy when it is wet. Fishing in heavy rain or sitting up wet for a day or two, the tach will go nuts until it drys out. Was your tach damp?

    Re: (Bubbatn)

Look on the back of the tack and you will see a screw driver slot looking plastic knob. Note where it is located, it has numbers around the circle it sit in. Then turn that screw back and forth gently and put it back to where you started from. There are contact points in there and they get corrosion on them from time to time and this will clean them up.
