    Engine wedge

So it seems like a lot of people with the 4S Merc's are putting an wedge on their boat/motors to get more bow lift. I have a new 721 being built, but the question I have is, what wedge is best? Seems like 2 or 5 degree are the options? I like a lot of trim and bow lift, so any thoughts or firsthand knowledge would be appreciated!

There are a few guys that have installed reverse wedges. They do seem to help with the 4S trim range. I would install 5 deg reverse wedges if I was going to add them.

I put 5 degree on my 721. I would suggest you get 5 degree as well. I can over trim which is nice so I know im getting the most out of my hull.

What kind of performance differences did you see? My dealer swears up and down that they are completely unnecessary, but I'm not sure I believe him.

This is interesting, i feel like i can overtrim my boat without wedges...to be honest, im still learning the boat, I just dont get many flat days on lake huron to run hard for long enough. Ive been told that they like to run "flatter" than other hulls.

going to Add the 5 degree to my SHO, the SHO has lots of trim but with lithiums and a bailey foil im taking off at 1/4 trim with zero bow lift , might as well use that extra for the top end

I never ran my boat without wedges. I knew from the performance on my 2016 721 with the same graph setup hds16/ Solix12/ garmin 10” and 360 on the bow and same lithium battery setup that I would need them on my 2021. So they were installed at the dealer. I do remember drew saying he was going to add 2 degree. Maybe he can elaborate if he went with 2 and now wants 5. They are also powder coated black to match the motor and jack plate so you can hardly tell they are there appearance wise.

It's not only the merc. I need them on my 721 with sho since adding 2" spacers to get 12" setback. My highest speed run I was off the rods and didn't realize it until I shut down and trimmed it back down.
Bad thing is I replace the spacers with wedges and I probably won't need them

The wedges do add alittle extra set back. About 1/2” probably. I have a 10” bobs on my 2016 721 with the 2s Mercury with no wedge but needs wedges. My 2021 721 has a 12” bobs with the 5 degree wedges and 4s Mercury.

I believe they have the washers. The bolts they put on are long. Like 3” long. I’ll get a photo and post it today. Installed at the dealer so I didn’t see it done. But they are for sure not the stock bolts that Phoenix put from motor to jack plate.

Is that a 2 or 4 stroke? I fingered that trim extenders would not help the 4S since it reads off the trim sensor and stops at 20 deg and extenders just would give 20 deg with less trim rod.

You know the extenders allow the motor to trim out above the stabilizing brackets so the motor can have a lot more flex and potentially snap the mount.

until i saw some real test results/proven results i wouldnt do it , also have your MERCURY DEALER refer to service bulletin 2013-15R1 for info reguarding mounting and any kind of acc used between engine and jack plate or transom
