alarm question on 93 vindicator 200 hp

This is an intermittent problem and looking for a direction to start. sunday, i idled out of no wake zone, about half a mile, and got a faint steady alarm. I stopped and reprimed bulb, and alarm quit. I ran to first spot and fished for a while, but alarm was back when I restarted, however, this time I wouldn't get the alarm until I started giving it gas. Reprimed bulb but didn't stop the alarm, so I ran it easy to next spot. Fished there until it started to cool down, ran back to marina with no alarm. I dont know if this is a fuel issue or and overheat issue. any help is appreciated
