My vote would be Minn Kota and through the years I've owned several of both.
As far as the shaft, I've only had one crack in 15 years or more and they sent a new replacement with no questions ask and the motor was prolly 10 years old!
My home lake is stump infested and I've seen several Guides that have bent shafts inside the collar from hitting one!

I have to say that the only TM I've had on my Ranger was a Motorguide Beast on a Gatormount....65# 36V. Twenty years old and it still runs. I fished in Michigan most of the time, and I have to admit the weeds did seem to be a pain, but having never used an MK, I guess I expected it to be about the same.

I've been doing an overhaul on my Ranger for some time and am about to consider changing my TM. Since I can get 70+ pounds from a 24V system and since electronics have expanded so much, I'm considering going 24V and using the extra battery as a backup cranking/electronics battery. I can't bring myself to cut a hole in the deck, so a low profile wireless pedal or remote sounds appealing. I've started looking at the PowerDrive V2 from MK and it seems like it would fill the bill....so I may be an MK convert too - but I have nothing bad to say about the MG that served me well for so long.

Anyone else made the transition from MG Gatormount to an MK? Am I going to have a mess with the old mounting holes on the boat?

    Thanks,

    -G

As a lifelong Motorguide guy, I now choose Minn Kota. I have a 36 volt on both boats one is a MG and the other a MK. I kinda like the feel of the MK better although power in the weeds goes to the MG. MG is 109lb and MK is 112

Been a lifelong Minn Kota user. Currently have a Fortrex and two Maxxum Pro's. This old dog will never change to MG. Nothing against MG, just love my MK's!

MinnKota Fortrex for sure. Quality and dependability and the quiet power that catches fish. Will always use a MinnKota.

I have had 4-5 MK and one MG. I have had lots of problems with the MK cables breaking non so far on the 13 yr old great white MG.
