Boat: 1992 ProCraft 180 dual pro
Engine: 1995 Mercury 175 Xri w/ TDR Reeds
Jackplate: 6 inch Bob's manual set at 3 1/4 inches below pad
Fastest Prop: 26P Tempest plus 64-66 GPS mph avg. at 5400-5500 rpm.
second prop : 25 Trophy by Robbie @ Sanderson 64-65 GPS avg at 5700 rpm.

The Tempest is a great prop for this boat. A Tempest lifts this boat better than any. I'd like to try a 25p Tempest plus done by Mark or Robbie on this boat. I've had this boat almost 17 years now. I doubt i'll ever sell this boat....I use it to fish, crab, explore, and run shallow water canals. It's officially my 'back-up' these days, as i have a Gambler 2200, but i really like my ProCraft & can't think of parting with her!

    1995 ProCraft V-200DC
1995 Mercury 200HP XRi Black Max
6" CNC manual jackplate set 3 1/4" below pad
    25p Tempest+
About 66 MPH (GPS) @5600RPM with just me and half a tank of gas, down to 63-64 MPH when adding a person and their stuff.
    • I carry an extra group 27 battery in the back (port side) to power the electronics and offset some of my weight when running alone

I'm the second owner of the boat and have had it for 9 years. It's starting to show a bit of age but it's still in real good shape and after putting the jackplate and proper prop on it last year, it runs and rides better than it ever has.

    Hull:1998 Astro 2000DC
Outboard:1998 200HP Merc EFI (bone stock, raised air inlet on cowl)
Jackplate: 6" RapidJack, 2 5/8" below pad. (See notes below.. That height is NOT recommended for extended use)
Prop: 25P Tempest Plus (vent holes fully open), B&B'd + Worked by Mark Croxton
Top GPS Speed: (April 18, 2012) 66.3 mph, 5800 rpm, 12-15psi @ WOT.. 2 passengers, 20 gallons fuel, empty wells, full fishing tackle on board..

Notes: Just checked my setup today, for the 1st time in ages.. I had started raising the jackplate when it was a little more than 3" under and hadn't realized I'd gotten the motor so high.. WP was pretty steady at around 12 psi, but since getting the prop back I have a spot from about 3/4 trim until max trim where the WP drops from 20+ back to around 10psi.. Once fully trimmed it climbs back to +/- 15psi, but the motor must be @ WOT.. I just got my prop re-worked and re-bb'd by Mark this month and today was the first time I really tried to air it out.. Im pretty sure it'll go faster, as it got to top speed much sooner than it used to, but I ran out of room.. Mark Croxton is a miracle worker, don't hesitate to let him (or a reputable prop shop) work your prop if you want a few extra MPH.. BUT, with the WP issue Im going to lower it back to 3" below pad.. Just isnt worth risking a power head at this point in the game.. Boat handles fine at that setting though, and holeshot is excellent imo.. Low water pickups may be an option, but at this time Im just gonna lower the motor and play it safe.. Had a scare last month with a blown head gasket.. Was looking at $4k + if it needed a rebuild and that'll open your eyes on a 14 year old rig! Tight Lines!!

    1997 ProCraft 180 single console
    1997 Mercury 150XR6 (bone stock)
No JP and motor is below pad but not by much. don't know the exact measurement
    Prop #1- 23P Trophy Plus 3-blade (63 @ 5700 on GPS)
    Prop #2- 21P Laser II (62 @ 6200 on GPS)
Both speeds recorded with a full tank (36gal) and all of my fishing gear (tourney load)
Both of these props were tested during the middle of October in East Texas so my Laser is going to be my summer prop.

Need advice guys. Does a 12" Rapid Jack sound like to much for a 91 20' Astro with a Evinrude 225 or do you think i should go with a 10"? The guys at hydro dynamics said a 10" or a 12" would work fine. Anyone ever run one that large?

With 225 HP you should be ok with 12".

One idea: Get the 10" and run it, then get the 2" spacers from Bobs (pretty inexpensive) and try them. If you don't like 12" of set-back then take the 2" spacers back off. If you like them, leave them! I run a 10" Hydraulic with 2" spacers on my Gambler/250XB.

08' SP200.....Opti 200 on it. Running a Croxtonized Trophy +25. 66 all day everyday with a partner, full tourney load, 30 gallons of gas, and 45 gallons in the livewell. Prop is set 2.75" below pad.....motor is on a Slidemaster 10" manually adjusted jackplate. Boat is a single console.

When I run it light, no water in livewell, 15 gallons of gas, by myself I can get right up 70 (69.8) on the GPS. I love my boat and the best part is that it fits in my garage!

I have a 1993 18 FSX with 1988 200 Black Max with a 6 inch manual jack plate I tried everything to get this boat set up I tried a 19p High5 a 23p High5 even a 23p Hustler prop all dogs untill I tried a tempest. Also the Jackplate made a huge difference.
Top speed setup 25p tempest plus all PVS plugs removed doggy out the hole but 64 mph at 5700 RPM
All around perfect setup 21p Tempest Plus all PVS plugs removed 54 mph at 5700 RPM rocket out of the hole great handling in rough water a little tall for pulling tubes but it does ok.

I have a 1988 garage kept 1660V with the original 120 Johnson, has 127 PSI on all cylinders, a Raker 22P prop and she runs out at about 58 MPH according to the GPS in my new Humminbird Helix 7, with three big batteries and a full tank of fuel with two people in her and all the fishing gear and I have one tackle box made from a Bass Pro Shops big yellow dry bag and another bag plus whoever else is with me tackle bag. I'm doing little massage work to the motor to get the spark up to snuff. Don't need jack plate on this old girl.
She handles waves better and rides a lot smoother than my friends 2005 Nitro 20'10" boat. That Nitro kills my backside even in smoother water.

I have a question guys. I have a 93 Astro 17SCX with a mercury 135 black max on the back of it. I was given a 5.5 manual jack plate from a friend who just didn't need it, but I was told a 5" won't do anything for the boat and I'll need new throttle and steering cables for it. Can anyone confirm this?

I have a 1996 18' Astro with a Mercury 150 EFI on it. I put a 6" jackplate on mine and my steering and throttle cables had enough slack in them to make it. The jackplate improved my holeshot and top end speed.
