    Towing 03' 185SVX 175Yamaha w F150 Lariat 5.4 L - Over Drive on?

While home on R&R from Afghan I bought a 185 SVX. When I was towing it seemed as if my truck whines a little more with the O/D off rather than O/D on.
Seems to burn less fuel with O/D on also. If any of you tow with a Ford do you engage the overdrive.

I tow with the same truck towing a 94 482vs/150 with apx 30gal fuel all over the east coast. Once i get on the thruway I re-enguage the OD get better gas usage and the rpm's drop to 2k @ 65mph, with the o/d on its about 2500rpm at the same mph. I only get 14mpg loaded at 65mph if i go over that speed and break 2k rpm's i only get 9-10mpg.. so its up to you the dealer told me to use the OD on the highway only...

I tow my 06 Z20 with my 07 F150 FX4 and always in OD never a problem except that it loves to drink gas.

I tow a 18'9" R83 Ranger with a Lincoln Mark LT with the 5.4L....pretty much same engine, chassis as the F150. I use OD on flat level ground if on the highway. If it is hilly or has a lot of slow/fast/slow/fast type driving I take the OD out. Mine is a 2007 and I have not had any problems. I would not use the OD in hilly terrain myself.
