Few vacation pics (Dialup Beware VERY pic heavy)

Here are a few of my vacation pics. I think I got some decent shots on the beach. Best thing I found to do was exactly what you guys suggested. Use auto for a few shots and then tweak from there. Also trust your exposure meter. I could barely see the shots in my screen afterward so I couldn't tell if they were blown out or not. These are completely unedited. Just uploaded them straight to Shutterfly.

All pics were shot with my Canon 30D and a 50mm F1.8. I use that lens for almost everything. I have a 70-200mm that I never use. I am wanting to get a 16-35 F2.8L SOOO BAD.

Cool. You may have just sold me on the 50mm f1.8. I've been learning on a Nikon D40 and have been wanting to get another lens and this was one that I have been looking at. Yeah, I'm wanting to step up to a 80-200mm f2.8 for soccer games and some wildlife, but my piggy bank ain't that fat yet!!! haha

    thanks for the info.

I am also just learning. I have only been shooting probably 3 months. The 50mm I have is just a cheapo one that I think came with the camera, I bought it used so I am not sure what all came in the kit. I am very happy with it and it is a breeze to use. I would probably spend a little more and get the L series. I have seen several used on C/L for $150-$200 in great shape.

The 50mm Prime is an awesome lens to have. They won't break your pocketbook either.

Very nice pics. It looks like you have learned a lot about your camera in a really short time.

The two parrot pics are great. The red one is just outstanding, its very well done.

I love my 50mm lens too, i have the 1.4 model. I don't use it nearly as much as i should but its truly an outstanding lens.
