Hey guys, need some help in continuing my efforts at getting my boat set up. After breaking a ear on my 28P Bravo I, I recently purchased one of Mark's Razor props (14.5X27P with two 3/4" holes at each blade) and put it on my 20XD powered by a 250XS with SM LU. I have run it twice since purchasing the prop with full tournament loads. The first time was at 3/4" above pad. At this level I was able to run about 76mph at 5000rpm and 20psi water pressure. After this run I raised the motor 1/4" (now 1" above pad) and was able to run it again this past Saturday in a tournament with full load. My results this time was 80mph, 5300rpm, at 16-17psi water pressure.
I think I am headed in the right direction with top end performance by raising the motor again 1/4" (1 1/4" above pad). Hopefully I will get to run it soon with a full tournament load and see the results from that. I can only go up one more click (1/4") and then I will be topped out. The only way to go higher is unbolt the motor and move it up one set of holes (which will be at the very bottom hole, no more after that).
Here's my deal. I am satisfied with top end speed. Prop handles great. Anything 80 or above is fine with me. However, my boat gets run 90% of the time with a full tournament load and my hole shot sucks. I have to have my partner get on the front deck to help it out. Didn't have to do this with my 28P Bravo I. Hole shot seems to have gotten a little better with raising the motor from 3/4" to 1" above pad.
Here are my main questions. Can I expect hole shot to get better as I raise the motor even higher? I don't want to go any higher than 1 1/2" above pad. If hole shot is very important to me (more so than top end speed) what should I do? Go to a smaller Pitch? Just want some suggestions. Thanks and sorry for the long narrative, just trying to give as much info as possible so I can get good input.
