whats biting near n.o. 01/18/2012-01/22/2012

i will be in n.o. with my wife on business trip 01/11/22 and would like to sneak off a day why she is in meetings to do a little fishing. everything will be frozen in ohio, so be nice to catch something. id like to just do some bass fishing somewhere close, but dont know if it is good time of year there for that or not...any suggestions..what to fish for and where? any guide ideas? or anyone have a open seat those days that would be willing to take a fellow out, in trade for some snacks, drinks and gas money. thanks dan

Should be prespawn and getting good depending on cold fronts. On the right day could see a big stringer on a bad one you could zip! Not sure how I will be working yet but if I got some time off we could hook up

Never know ahead of time when the fronts come through, other than that fishing should be good. Think I will be in turnaround at work, but I'm not much of a guide anyway.

around that time ill be starting to hit the pearl river/slidell area pretty regular...ill be in an aluminum boat versus a big bassboat, but i usually have an empty back seat...i cant promise giants, but i can just about promise numbers...

wow very positve feedback from this thread thanks alot guys i appreciate very much. i will be posting again closer to the date im leaving and looking foward to meeting up with some fellow bassers. i fish alot of tourneys in ohio in very high pressured waters, and i feel like it would be pretty interesting to compare fishing style and methods used very far in south.

If I'm off and you don't mind a trip to Slidell its only 25 minutes from New Orleans. I can take you on the Pearl and it won't mater how cold it is we will catch fish..

I also live in Slidell fished for three to four hours today two people in the boat and caught around seventy fish. Nothing over 3lbs today but still fun. Caught fish on four or five different baits. All were released to fight another day. Plenty of the fish we caught had eggs already.

i will be sending out pms to a few of you most generous fisherman that have offered maybe an open seat. hopefully it will be good weather as im not bringing my bad weather gear with me lol looking to fish on thurs 12th or fri 13th. just in case anyone might have been wondering, im from columbus ohio, 35 yr old, work on the railroad, married, comn to n.o. with my wife who has business convention. im a avid bass tourney fisherman, i fish tourneys pretty much every weekend from april-sept here in ohio. i might need to borrow a rod, reel from you when im there, im not lugging my gear down on the plane, although i can smuggle a reel or two along with me if needed would still need a rod. thanks alot dan
