    Re: False River?? (craigs06)

Don't know if it is worth a trip or not. I hate that lake. But, the closest ramp to BR is on the south end of the lake on the east side. Cross Miss. R. on I-10, take 1st exit on other side LA-415 to US 190. Go west on US 190 about 10 miles. Take a right on Rougon Rd. Go about 10 miles then turn left at T. Go about 2 miles and take a right (Bank on corner, across from a church). go 1/4 mile and take a left at T. About 2 miles there's an LA Express Store on right and launch is across the street. Pay for launch in the store. The public launch is on the north end of the lake on the west side in New Roads. Directions to it are travel further west on US 190 and exit to the right at LA 1 to New Roads. Stay on LA 1 for about 20 miles. After about 5 miles you will be traveling up the lake you will see it on the right. When you get into New Roads go about 2 miles past Wal Mart. Launch is across the street from large catholic church.

I agree 100% it still got some hogs.
Just alot harder place to fish without the grass.
They got more brush around those flats than you can shake a stick at.
Seen one guy put a whole bag of crawfish on his brush pile in February.
Went back to that spot a week later and slammed 5lb and 7lber.

    Re: False River?? (teammjr)

To me that is more fun that bass fishing.
False River always had those huge stripers by lighthouse.
I think last year or the year before they stocked the flats with 250,000 hybrid stripers.
Fun like you said especially on a trap.

Now how I find alot of brush piles I learned this trick when I lived on Toledo Bend.
Take the transducer on trollmotor turn it side ways especially if you know how to read a sonar.

    Re: False River?? (RogerR)

It works just poorboy way of find brush without buying newer sidefinders.
I had an old timer show me on Toledo Bend and took me awhile to do it.
Don't put it too high or break the plane of water.
Similar effect to old Eagle sonar with sidefinder made back in 1992.

Place like False River in flats you see more clutter which is usually brush piles.
In marsh when you got large flat and you are looking for schools of redfish or speckletrout it works just not as dark in color.
