cold water fishing.. whats your go to bait when water temps are < 50

fished last sunday and water temps are dropping pretty quick. it was around 54-55 where i fish. I'm still catching fish on spinnerbaits, fish full of shad a few crawfish and some have egg sacs. the waters I fish too are shallow.. very shallow.

for those that still fish whats your goto bait when the water gets this cold??

3/8 to 1/2 oz Jig and Pig. Black and blue or a crawfish color. Fish slow and tight to any cover.

Today at Ruddock the water temps were in the the middle to upper 40's. I caught fish on a Zoom Horn Toad on a steady reel across the top of the water. I caught one that way, but had two others blow up on it.

The rest of the fish I caught on a Zoom Super Fluke with no wieght. Just a heavy hook. Most hit it while I was twitching it high in the water, then I would let it fall and the fish would hit it on it's way down

Id be wasting your time to tell you what i throw in December cause ive never fished in December! Im Feb. you cant go wrong with a Jig or a HUGE creature bait. Spinnerbait high in the water column on warmer days.

Jig, swim jig, but the spinnerbait down here is underated as a cold water lure. That includes the chatterbait.

I just fish slow. Jig, plastic, or SLOW roll a heavy spinner.

Welcome to BBC Scott. Yep you were spoiled if you fished down south then moved up here, But there are plenty good places round here too
