Question or two
2001 3 liter 225 efi upgrade
1. I am having trouble finding 250 XB or 300 PM heads
what is a good source?
2. On 250 XB heads, do I still need to mill them down?
if so, what CC or thickness before I have to run premium gas?

Yeah that’s why I was looking to XB heads so I did not have to run premium
It if I want performance I will probably need to
i just want my 206 to run 65-68 fully loaded
If anybody has any leads on good 300pm heads, and a 4 shutter intake let me know. I have a 99’ 225efi just itching to be woke up.

I have a high hr '03 XB with one cyl down about 10 lbs, leak down of about 8%. Scoped the cyl and see some pretty deep scars. Looking to rebuild this winter, are these cylinders chrome? Unaware of prior rebuilds on this power head. Ialready have a new set of the composite reeds that Don recommends.. what other reasonable $ mods are suggested? I'm at high altitude 5000`+ and unable to source fuel over 90 octane. Who is the best XB builder? TIA
Cylinders aren't chromed lined. You can replace the sleeve. With that altitude and only 90 octane fuel, I wouldn't mod that motor at all.
As of 5-18-2019, this station had 91 octane ethanol free:

Ethanol-free octane ratings: 87 91

Checked at that Maverick station, same as the one on this side of town. 87 only for clear fuel.
I have started collecting parts to mod my 2001 225 EFI serial number 0T364322. I found a set of 300 PM heads and since this thread is about a year old who still has the services to machine the heads and modify my 2 ECUs?
Wow, just read through all 10 pages of this thread and it brings back some memories. A little history on my mods and I think I was very early in the game. Back in late '96 I ordered a '97 Triton TR-21PD when they first came to market. Had hull #24 and it only weighed 1270 lbs. Rigged with a 3.0 225 efi. stock it would run mid 70's, on a good day 77. My problem was both my fishing buddies ran Allisons with 260 EFI's and I got the speed bug. Soon as my 1 year warranty was up I added the second set of butterflies from G-Force marine, cowl mod, 300PM heads, solid mounts, cut out exhaust liner, and a Land & Sea nose cone with low water pickups. After some trial and error I settled on a 29 pitch Yamaha drag prop reworked by Tillmans. It would hit 89mph on the rev limiter with a light load. 2 people and full of gear it would still run low 80's. Didn't have the coin back then to try a 300 computer for the extra rev's and a soon to be ex-wife forced me to sell it. Always wondered how much more I could have gotten out of it.
I can't find the Cowl mod. I know there use to be a post on it, but I cant find it.
