changing from Premium Plus to Mercury Racing oil - remote tank question?

    Mercury 300xs, serial #1E051504

The previous owner of my boat ran Premium Plus 2 stroke oil, and as the remote tank is nearing empty I would like to change over to the Mercury Racing Synthetic Blend oil.
I am going to follow the procedure in the sticky notes and NOT mix the 2 oils in the remote tank, but rather wipe down the remote tank and before I fill with Mercury Racing 2 stroke oil.

Question - As long as the engine mounted oil tank is full, do I need to perform any oil prime procedure after opening, wiping down, and refilling the remote tank? (Or will it start operating correctly upon replacing the cover, etc)

    Thanks.

should operate fine without prime , personally id drain both tanks and make sure no air bubbles were present in oil feed hose to pump

Ran a 300xs on Premium Plus for 13 years with over 700 original hours on it because that is what Mercury Racing recommends. Don't believe me though. Give them a call. I promise you won't run it any harder than I ran mine. Only replaced it due to getting new 300R!!

I work at a Mercury dealer for 4 years. I don't think Mercury Racing would contradict their own service manual.

That's why I buy a service manual for my motors. I don't have to depend on hearsay. My motor was 13 years old with 705 hours and never had the heads off when I sold it after replacing it with a 300R. Glad I Don't have to worry about that anymore. It's your motor and your money, do it your way.

    Respectfully- Think again.

New products come out all the time... and supersede older information.

13 years in my 300xs. Never had a head off. I think everyone knows I don't baby my stuff. Ran same speed as new 300R when it came off. What is the price difference for race over . Respect fully I think that is why it is being pushed (Benjamin's). Not because it works better!

it does reduce carbon, clean oil, nothing wrong with premium plus at all, it is good quality oil. I have tested many oils over the years, use Blackstone labs, Mercury oil is quality, don’t really care for dfi, but it burns also…

No problem man. I always followed the service manual. Now I don't have to worry with oil or 93 octane. 300R only needs regular oil change and 87 octane gas. I am happy as can be. It's also a blip or two faster.

Yes I did, pennzoil came back as a very high quality lube, only short was it had less anti corrosive additives than merc oil.
