Re: 3 liter cowl mods (2fastr1)

Took the boat out Sunday to test the improvements, but there were too many pleasure boats out to get her up to speed. I did get her up to almost 75 at one point before I had to get out of it. That Mercury was sounding really good, and it didn`t cut out at any rpm range.

Re: 3 liter cowl mods (2fastr1)

Sinse I made the modifications I`ve now had the chance to test it a few times and see the results. Sadly, there were no improvements with the modifications.
My boat would run 77mph at it`s fastest. Had to change a couple of gears in the lower unit due to hitting a stump. It seems after that was done top speed went down to 74-75. Tested it one last time a couple weeks ago during the start of a tournament and 74.6 was top speed on a cool morning. I was hoping the Mods would at least get me back to 77, but for some reason it didn`t work for me.
Thanks for sharing the improvements with us. Maybe I`ll work on the prop a little next?

Since you had previously lost speed oyu might want to check a few things before you give up. Compression check would be first(look for a cylinder being weak). Deffinitly run some injector cleaner through the motor. and if that doesn't help over years of use the exhaust chest in the midsection can clog up and rob top end performance.

The Cowl mod gave me a little bump in RPM and Speed. It looks pretty kool too. I'm doing 81 gps avg at 6100 rpms with a 28p Bravo I. My 250XB is otherwise stock. The boat is a Gambler 2200. The Bravo has not yet been worked.

I have a 225 efi with 300 pro max heads and fuel computer and SVS intake. I plan to do the vent mod and possibly the lower cowl mod, should I have any issues with using the 225 ignition computer until I can get a pro max ignition computer or have mine flashed?

I would not recommend running the 225 Ignition ECU on this modded engine.
