Premium Plus (Mercury or Quicksilver) is a synthetic blend and always has been. It's the correct oil to add to your fuel.

Is this the correct premium plus to add to my gas?

    I have a 2015 mercury 150 optimax proxs

    Mercury/Quicksilver 92-858026K01 Premium Plus Synthetic Blend TCW-3 Outboard Oil - 1 Quart <MODERATOR EDIT- LINK NOT PERMITTED>

Just to confirm I have this correct. For every 5 gal of gas I put into the tank I should add

    1oz quikleen
    1oz quikcare
1oz quikstor (if gas will sit for more then 30 days)
    4oz of premium plus oil

That and a number of other part number bottles that contain Premium PLUS (which is and always has been a synthetic blend) are suitable for mixing in the cocktail (Optimax Engine Models).

Quickstor is NOT needed unless you will be storing your engine for a seasonal purpose (ie- more than 45 days).

You can mix all of the components if you wish in "shooters" for 5 gallons of fuel, or for 10 gallons (twice the amount shown above).

If you would, please take a moment to review the Announcements at the top of the Forum, and be sure to include the REQUIRED info when posting. Please also note that certain website links are not supported here in the forums.

    Hey Don,
Do you still recommend adding the PP in the cocktail for my 2018 225 PRO XS and does Mercury still consider it acceptable?

I've been using the "cocktail" but not adding the pp oil. Is this to lube the injectors?

It may have other benefits but my understanding is that it does lubricate the fuel rails/injectors.

I have a little confusion. I have a 2001 Mercury Optimax 175. I was told to use NGK IZFR5G, according to NGK's website this is for 2003-2006 175 Opti's. The website states to use PZFR5F-11 for 2001. I did not do the plugs previously but I pulled IZFR5G out of my engine.

Not sure which way to go.

    Thanks

    I have a 1999 200 opti.
in your post you said add fuel stabilizer anytime gas will sit longer than 2 weeks. does the Quickare have sufficient fuel stabilizer to keep the fuel fresh throughout the season where in my case it could sit for 4 weeks? mercury says it keep fuel for 3 months? or should I also add quickstor? or just use quickstor for winter storage? thanks. From page 1, note the very last sentence:

    Fuel Additive Recommendations:
-Stabilize fuel ANYTIME fuel will not be consumed and replaced within 15 days!!!
-Optis (ALL, including XS & ProXS): Quickleen in EVERY TANK OF FUEL. You CAN combine Mercury QuickCare or QuickStor Fuel System Treatment & Stabilizer with Quickleen. Use the recommended "dose" of each product per the bottle instructions. For anyone questioning Quickleen recommendation- see Service Bulletin 2001-12 (yes, it's been recommended since 2001!!!).
-Quickleen may be used in ANY Mercury engine- it helps to prevent/remove carbon buildup (primary purpose).

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Mercury Component Cocktail"- for EVERY tank of fuel, whether or not your fuel contains Ethanol: (Chemically, this works much the same as the previously recommended (and now to avoid alcohol content) cocktail, and requires less components.) This is Don's Preferred "Cocktail":

    -1oz Mercury QuickCare +
    -1oz Mercury QuickLeen
    ----------------------------
Per 5 Gallons of Fuel (in EVERY TANK).

In addition to the above, it is acceptable to add 150:1 mix of Premium PLUS in the fuel tank (for OPTIMAX engine models). This has been proven to benefit fuel system components by providing additional lubrication ONLY to the fuel system components (especially the direct injectors- which are often left DRY after engine shutdown).

(If leaving fuel in boat for more than 30 days, be sure to also add Mercury QuickStor).

That means 4 plugs to the box of whatever part number you're looking at. Plug gap is as specified on pg1 of this topic.
