    Leaf Spring bolt tightness?

    98 Triton Trailer, single axle.

I just replaced the (6X) bolts & bushings for my leaf springs to my trailer, how tight should I tighten the bolts/locknuts?

It seems to me that you don't want them to tight so the springs/shackles can move easier with less friction.

    thanks

If you used spline bolts...tighten them up to where there is a 1/8" gap between the head of the bolt and shackle and then hit them with a hammer the rest of the way in...they will be tight but loose enough to move...

Re: Leaf Spring bolt tightness? (chunky t)

    Chucky

so after you hit the spline bolt in with a hammer you should have 1/8 inch gap between the nut and the shackle, right?
