if i can interpret this correctly, the side markers are spliced from the taillight wire (brown)? and all the lights are grounded to the trailer? tell me if i'm wrong

    Re: Trailer wiring diagram... (restornator)

You are correct, side markers are powered through the same circuit as the taillights.

Yep, all the lights are grounded to the trailer at the location of each light.. Unfortunately some trailer (like mine) are grounded using rivets, and they dont stay tight very well.. So far I've reground 3 lights, and a 4th (center marker on the back of the trailer) needs it..

    Re: Trailer wiring diagram... (Mickstix)

Want to share this with you guys so if you have this problem you do not go thru what I did. Should have known this but did not. This is similar to the old theory that if you have trouble with backup lights check your cruise control. If it does not work you have a blown fuse.( On Fords,? others).
My left brake light and turn signal did not work on my boat trailer. Did work on the truck so I assumed it was on trailer or plug. Went to checking and found nothing. Started over again and was checking truck. My truck has towing package. AFTER you think about it the people that designed this knew what they were doing. Finally noticed that I had no power to these lights at the towing package plug in at the back of the truck. The truck lights do work so I was really confused. When lost read the manual. Looking for fuse that covers the left side brake and turn only. None were shown in the fuse box in the cab. By luck looked at the elect. box under the hood. Did not know it but there are mini fuses out there too. In the manual found the two 10 amp fuses that control turn, flasher, brake light( one for right ,one for left) Replaced fuse problem solved. These fuses are for the towing package light plug only. Great design. If you have a problem with your trailer these fuses blow and your truck is still ok. Have not found out what caused the fuse to blow , maybe old age but will keep aware. Hope this helps someone.

Re: Trailer wiring diagram... (ARK Ranger)

    ARK Ranger,
I am seeing the exact problem you have but with the right brake light and turn signal not working on the trailer. They both work fine on the truck (recently purchased Ford F 150 with towing package). I have not begun to troubleshoot yet but will take you advise and look for a fuse first. Thanks!

    ARK Ranger,
That was exactly the case on my Ford, a blown mini fuse under the hood. Thanks for the tip!

my trailer is blowing fuses in my truck. im guessing this means there is a wire going to one of the lights that has rubbed through the insulation and is shorting out on the trailer?

here is something that i recently observed to help remember which
wire is the right or left turn signal wire.
the color wire in question contains the letter in the correct direction
when you throw out the vowels
ie: gReen wire has an R for the right side
yeLLow wire has L's for left side

i have no problem remembering tail is brown

    Re: Trailer wiring diagram... (Andrew8127)

Whats the best method to splice into the wires? Are these the preferred ones or are there some better waterproof ones I should be using?

I see the best way to splice, on another thread about trailer wire crime. So what would be the next best way. I'm not getting under the trailer and soldering upside down.
