There is an aft mounted oil pump that operates in conjunction with the main one.
Piston splash port and dome is redesigned.
New EPA approved low permeation hoses on powerhead fuel system
improved exhaust grommet, stronger to survive the increased water pressures with the new gearcase
repositioned shift switch now mounted to crankcase, not on shift lever
formerly black oil recirculation hoses changed to clear blue style
cooling water from vapor tank separator rerouted

A friend just called and was looking for help with his new 2011 250 HO on a Evolution. He is thinking 27 Fury or Tempest to start.
What gearcase and gears will be on his motor?
thanks

What is the significance of the gear ratio vs. previous Etecs and what are the highlights of the M2 Case?
I have been told the lower unit deviates some and will loose some top end. Any comments?
Of course I am looking for reliability more then anything else. If I have to give up some speed reliability that would be a plus to me.
I am also curious about this new gearcase....got contacted by my dealer the other day telling me I need to swap out my 09 gearcase for this new one...my biggest concern is that I will lose top end obviously.....have my rig dialed in right now and figured I would have to start from scratch if I go through with the swap out......

I understand that on a boat such as Stratos or Ranger, the speed difference is minimal, sometimes even the same, as long as its propped correctly.
On a faster type boat such as Bullet, etc. there may be a noticable 2-3 mph loss.
The better gear ratio and stronger gearcase makes the change worth it, and give much better acceleration. Water pressure is a lot higher, in fact if you change out from an L2 gearcase, you have to replace the rear exhaust rubber grommet to a stronger one that won't blow off from the higher pressures.
