Re: ***Lowrance HDS Unit Screen Shots & Information*** (gofishbass)

Is any one running a HDS unit on their electric motor using built-in transducer ie:Motorguide wireless - Minnkota universal sonar ?

I have heard that the screens black out when running the motor ?

    Thanks Scotto

    Hey Scotto,

I've got a HDS5 up front and a Minnkota Fortrex using the inbuilt sonar and i'm getting this issue. For the first week it was fine, then for some reason it started to happen.

Works perfectly fine when you let go of the 'go pedal' and even when turning from side to side

Spoke to my dealer and he said he's experiencing the same issues and is waiting for a fix on it.

    Cheers,
    Paul

Re: ***Lowrance HDS Unit Screen Shots & Information*** (fishin couillon)

Does the GPS transponder in the HDS units still draw power if you turn off the unit by the power bottunn on the unit? I am wanting to hook my new HDS-10 directly to the battery and not go through my main power or use any of my auxillary switches.

I would have to say yes cause i have a 7 and 27C networked running off of my internal antenna on the 7 and when i turn it off the 27C jumps over to the LGC 2000 external antenna.

Edd</TD></TR></TABLE> In the HDS unit? Not sure where your getting that at but both my 7 & 8 unit reads the 4 gb cards. In fact that is the size card I have in the units now.

Has anyone heard how much the structure scan ducers are going to cost, or are they a software upgrade for the current ducers? Debating on whether to go with HB or Lowrance side imaging.

The SS for lowrance has it's own ducer. No software upgrade for the existing ducer if that's what you mean. I don't know how much but from the looks i would think a couple hunder bucks.

Source told me retail 599.00 I'm guessing it's more than a transducer.

The LSS-1 (structure scan setup) is $599. Thats the ducer, ducer bracket, box, ethernet cable and power cable.

Re: ***Lowrance HDS Unit Screen Shots & Information*** (ruski)

    Hi Scotto,
You need to ground the trolling motor by running a wire from the negative where the depth finder is connected and run it all the way down to the trolling motor and attach to the trolling motor with a hose clamp. Before doing all this work you can temporarily run the ground from the depth finder to the trolling motor and make sure it makes connection with the body. Try it out and see if it solves the problem for you. If it does, then complete the job.
You might also consider using a Transducer Shield & Saver which made of aluminum and you can attach the ground to it.
Let me know how that works for you.

Re: ***Lowrance HDS Unit Screen Shots & Information***

According to the Lowrance specs - HDS will accept up to a 32G SD card.
My 2G, works without issue. Also use it for updates, which are 300+ MB.
Biggest concern I have is; If the SD were 12G (for example) would it slow
down the responsiveness of the unit or otherwise impact the performance?

Re: ***Lowrance HDS Unit Screen Shots & Information*** (Fishmore)

That is correct with the 32GB card. I would think using the bigger cards like you mentioned it could slow it down some when writing to it. I use 4 GB's and don't have any problems recording. Heck, if the 2GB works for you by all means keep using it.
