where do you guys like to get your power from for running the console finders? do you run wire to the battery or do you wire it in somewhere under the dash

If its got boobs, tires, siding, or an outboard motor you have trouble!!!

HB always recommends running them straight to the battery with an inline 3amp fuse.

I was wondering if there was any type of bracing done to ram mount that was mounted on the recess trolling motor tray?I just got a 958di that i want to mount right in front of the trolling motor tray and saw this install and was wondering if its sturdy enough...Thanks

    2002 ranger 520vx. HB987c SI unit. RAM-109HU. I had a RAM-109HSB but changed it up a bit.

    Previous mount with RAM-109HSB.

SI tranducer on a 1986 395VS with the 12" set back. Picked up the Transducer Saver and "L" Bracket from Transducer Shield and Saver's website. Their products are very solid. I got the L bracket without holes and drilled my own. Also epoxied the shoot through transducer in the bilge. Ignore my plumbing, I just ordered a box full of goodies from Flow-rite to fix that up.

Redid my graph setup. Got myself two 998c si units, one for the console and one for the bow. I also moved my 747c from the bow to the console and made an adapter plate on the bow panel, just need to epoxy the transducer in the hull. Ran all new 12g power wires with proper inline fuses from the battery for the 998's. The 747 will be mainly for high speed sonar. I had the 1.5 RAM for the bow left over so I am using it, but if it doesn't work out I'll go with a 2.25 RAM mount. I plan on letting the graph down while running anyway.

    Enjoy.

    Replacing flasher with ram ball.
    image.jpg
This uses the spacer from transducer shield and saver. Required no holes to be drilled in the dash. The ball is backed by an aluminum plate cut to match the contours of the gauges. A rubber floor mat was cut to shape and sandwiched in between the plate and dash to prevent slipping.

Thanks for the idea Jim's Ranger

This is my first post as I wanted to share my install. Received a lot of ideas from this site but a boat like mine (R83) was not shown. Hopefully this helps someone in the future. The mount used for the back unit is a Dek-It Dash Mount. There is about an inch clearance between the unit and the steering wheel. I have the unit tilted up 1 click and never have issues hitting it. It's placed at a good height where I can see the water without restrictions and can also see the unit clear.

Got everything working so thought I would post pictures of my setup in my new Ranger RT188 for any interested.

1199ci HD SI at the console on a 12" BalZout mount. Everything runs to here and this is the "Master" unit.

1199ci HD SI at the bow on a 12" BalZout mount. This unit gets data from the console unit via ethernet.

Units are powered from a Blue Seas fuse block directly connected to the cranking battery

AS GPS HS heading sensor puck mounted on back deck in close proximity to transducers

I ran a 10' transducer extension cable from the console 1199 to the back of the boat. This isn't necessary, but if you have a transducer go bad, this way you don't have to fish the transducer cables back to the console. The extension made it as far as the rigging clam shell where the control cables exit the boat. At that point I attached an AS SIDB Y cable. I ran the Y cable ends into the battery compartment. The HDSI transducer is mounted to the transom up from the bottom to protect it and ran to the battery compartment where it attaches to one side of the Y cable. The AlumaDucer is epoxied to the inside of the hull next to the bilge pump and connected to the other side of the Y cable. Both transducer wires are then doubled into a long loop and coiled, then mounted with a zip tie to the inside back transom wall.

Running in smooth water I am getting constant bottom readings as fast as I can go, 49-50 mph, in 60+ feet of water. In rough water it starts to loose and reacquire the bottom over 35 mph which to be fair that is probably all that can be expected. But in smooth water it is a total success.

This is an old thread but it's also still very relevant. I was looking for examples of where / how I can mount a new Helix 8 that I ordered. My 519vx looks exactly like the bow on this boat. I ordered a custom plate of 3/16 aircraft aluminum made by Van at Bass Boat Technologies. It looks like this with the remote mounted in the OEM location and without the crossover so that I can mount a RAM mount like SuperG did in these pictures. I have since had someone comment that the plate is only held in by 4 small screws into fiberglass and so I should instead mount the RAM mount to the carpeted area beneath the plate. Are there any comments about that reservation from anyone else who's had some experience in this matter? Thanks.
