How to Rig Humminbird Transducer on MinnKota Terrova:

Republished from Terrova sonar transducer mount

Well, I mounted the shielded HDSI 180 T transducer to my Terrova today. Probably everybody does it this way but I took some pics. I had the cable dangling around like I saw someone mount it on a PD V2. Didn't work out for me. I think I'll like this much better. Had to remove the shaft with motor from the drive to avoid cutting the cable, but it's just one 3/16" screw. Pull two electrical quick disconnects and voila, it slips right outta' there.

When you get the cable just centered and tight, use a drop of waterproof glue every 6 to 8 inches to hold it there. There's plenty of clearance to slip through the drive. Put 'er back together. And take your time

    RipTide ST Transducer Install:

Here are a few pictures of a Humminbird transducer install on a Riptide ST (saltwater version of a Terrova). I used 5200 to glue the cable in the groove since I had some left over from other projects. The only drawback is it took a week for it to dry.

Thanks for this post on routing the transducer cable on terrova Doug. I’m going to give this a go, what would the best glue be to use?

    Minnkota PowerDrive V2 Install:

    From: Trolling motor transducer

It is easily done. Most folks attempt to tie wrap the wire to the shaft and that obviously won't work since the shaft must slide through the steering collar. The technique is shown in the pictures that follow. Basically you secure the cable at the motor end of the shaft. It must hang free as it parallels up the shaft and is then secured ABOVE the steering collar. It is then routed through the coil cord and on to the locator. There can be no twists or knots in the cord as it mast be free to pass through the coil cord as the motor is raised and lowerded.

    Step 1, 2, and 3

    Step 4 and 5

    Step 6 and 7

    Step 8

    From Crappie Forum:

Here is the way I mounted my V2:

Several Questions on how there set-up is wired. These images will help identify AS-YC or AS SI DB Y Cable being used.

Look at the Cable Collector that holds all the individual Cables. Look at the Transducer Port do you have one cable or two coming from that port?

Here is 800/900 Series Cable Collector and Port Locations:

Since i run the 1100 Series here is the Cable COllector for it

The back of the Cable collector may have wiring like this. One Wire to Power, Comm Port could have Y Cable installed for GPS and Accessory like InterLink, Weathersense Etc and the Transducer Port has one wire transducer is connected direct. IF using AS SI DB Y Cable will have 2 Wires

800/900 will have same set-up just all in a line not in square cable collector

Here is a closer look at AS SI DB Y Cable removed from Cable Collector

Does anyone know where to find a flush mount template for a 859ci HD DI? I can't find it on the CD, only a transducer template?

Doug, Do you have a diagram showing a bow graph w side imaging, a console graph w side imaging transducer and shoot thru transducer and 360 imaging connected to both graphs and both graphs connect by ethernet. This may be an upcoming popular installation.

I don't have one but should be pretty simple because you hook up like normal then hook up to Ethernet with 5 Port Hub. 360 Imaging is an Ethernet Accessory.

Do you have the Ethernet Cable plugged into both? Try plugging and unplugging a couple times. Once you have connected the Network Menu should appear unless this is an older unit prior to the release of Ethernet and would need software update. Also is your software updates similar update versions?

    Hello-

Well I am a new user to this site and let me tell you that there is a TON of great information. Doug I have already watched a bunch of your Youtube videos and posting and boy are they informative.

My brother and I just purchased a 2005 Champion 198 Elite and also a side imaging humminbird for the console. I've been scouring these forums for as much info before drilling any holes in the boat to make sure we do it right. We obtained the same L-bracket and tranducer saver rear mount as you mentioned and shown in the champion install photos forum and above and want to see if you could help out with a little more information on making sure I understand everything properly.

the question I have for you are:
    1) does your placement of the transducer make the humminbird read images as expected, even at high speed? Any interference or tweaking you had to do? Based on the manuals it appears it should and based on other forums too. I know that i won't get images at high speed on the SI but with teh DI and normal ducer, I should still be able to correct?

    thanks!
    Dan

ONIX 10 SI transom mount transducer installation.

Should the transducer be able to pivot up and down a few degrees when everything is tightened down? It's a new one on me if it is. I contacted HUmminbird customer service by phone and was told that it is OK for the transducer to move/pivot up and down.
I was also told that I would not get and depth readings or anything at speeds over "slow".

This is a contact e-mail I sent to Humminbird customer service through their web site after the phone call. Can anyone on here lend me some advise or assistance if bird does not get back to me before the weekend. I hope the verbage makes sense. Thanks for any input.

I have purchased an ONIX 10 SI unit. I am at the end stage of installing the the transom mount SI transducer. Please reference page 15 of your installation guide for this unit.

On the right side of the page then top figure where it refers to the headed pin, screw, nylon washer and SST washer. When the transducer secured/tightened down with the headed pin as a pivot and the hardware is tightened the transducer is still able to rotate a few degrees. This does not seem right as with this set up the transducer will be able to wobble up and down for the few degrees of movement when underway. This certainly would change the angle of attack/signal of the transducer at different speeds. It is almost like the black plastic pivot piece that actually attaches to the transducer has a bottom tap that is too short or the metal bracket is not to specification.

I have had 4 different Humminbird fish finders over the years and the transducer was never allowed to wobble/pivot like this transducer is allowed to do.
The metal bracket is securely mounted to the boat transom. The machine screws that are tightened with the allen wrench are tightened. But the transducer still can pivot on that headed pin assemble.

I talked with your customer service today on the phone and Beverly said that the wobble would be OK. I find that a little hard to swallow.
Please advise concerning this wobbling/pivoting transducer and tell me how I can get consistent reading with the transducer wobbling up and down. I think it can pivot up and down about 5 degrees. The transducer would have one angular relationship with the boat at slow speeds and another angular relationship to the boat at speeds where the water pressure was enough to press up on the transducer having it pivot up.

Thank you for your prompt assistance.

A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again.
