    Chain link fence gate...

So, I'll need to make my chain link gate on the side of my house wider if I'm going to squeeze a boat in there. I want to go wide to avoid hitting anything. So...whats the rule of thumb when it comes to the post spacing. I only need to move one of them. I'd like to get a 10' gate (5x5). Looks like there needs to be a gap on each post and one in the middle. Thoughts??

    thanks

Buy the gate(s) and hinges and mount one gate section to the post that wont be moved. Then measure from the post to the end of that gate section.
Example: if it measures 5'6" then you know the other side needs to be 5'6". (11')
Now determine what gap you want between the sections when closed. Maybe 2". (11'2")

thx haha...I actually googled it and they say to allow 6" greater than overall needed. 2" at each post and 2" in the middle. thx

Put in the biggest gate that will work, and save yourself the hassle of doing it again later. A typical bass boat trailer is over 8' across the fenders, giving you only a foot of clearance. More be better.
