overheat alarm going off on 1989 120hp

I have 1989 120hp model j120tlcem that sometimes lately solid beep warning comes on and plenty of water comming ot the pee hole and does not seem hot. Shut it off and fish a while and then may run fine the rest of the day. Most times this happens running slow about 1500 to 2000 rpms on a no wake lake. Don't know why it just does it sometimes. Had a new waterpump installed about mid summer. Thanks for any help!!!<br /><br />
