    MotorGuide

Posted in the Lounge, re-posting here

    Trolling motor

Asking for a friend that bought a boat with a Motor Guide trolling motor on it. Boat needed a bunch of work, but it was priced right, nothing was hooked up, no batteries, etc...The trolling motor is definitely a Motor Guide, but there are no plates or decals on it at all. The to cover is screwed up to the extent you can't read what was on it. Million dollar question is, how can you tell if it is 12 volt or 24 volt.

Post a picture of the motor and measure the diameter of the lower unit for starters

Here are some pictures, I don't know why he didn't get a little closer ...The motor is 3-1/2 inch...
I have a Motor Guide Pro 6700 and I know mine is 24v, and it looks exactly like his but I know it can and still be 12v...

Hopefully John, Brad or someone else recognizes the motor and can let you know.

It is a Motor Guide Pro Series. It looks like a 70# which is a 24 volt model. I have not worked on one in quite a while and can not tell if it is 24 or 12 volts. Measure the motor assembly as John said and we will see.

The length of the housing is where you can tell. A 70# housing will be longer than a 55 # housing. I was really busy today I will check 1st thing in the mourning.

Thanks for more info, I will tell him to measure that also, and I will measure mine when I get back from fishing. I think with all the info I have from BBC now we can figure it out. Was going to just "go with it" but hate to burn up a perfectly good motor

He finally measured his and its 7-3/4 from the seal plate to the nose tip. The 6700 I have is 11-3/4 and I know positive it's a 24v so his has got to be 12...Thanks for the info........

Motor Guide. Foot switch is on the right side of the peddle. Look at your batteries, or the wires on the plug. If you have 4 wires, Red, Black, White and Orange, and all are connected, it's a 12/24 motor.
