    MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout

There has been discussion in the past about the "light codes" on MinnKota battery chargers. Hope this helps.

    MK110, MK210, MK315, MK220, and MK330
A GREEN power light is lit to indicate AC power is applied.
A YELLOW light is lit for each bank to indicate the battery is charging.
A GREEN light is lit for each bank to indicate the battery is fully charged and in maintenance mode.
A RED light for each bank is lit if any of the following apply:
    A) No battery is connected to an output lead. This may also indicate a blown fuse in the fuse holder.
    B) The battery voltage is below 8.0 volts.
    C) The battery is connected reverse polarity.
RED and GREEN lights are lit simultaneously for each bank if any of the following apply:
    A) The battery voltage is below 8.0 volts.
    B) A damaged temperature sensor on the output lead. The bank will not operate if this occurs.
    MK230, MK345, MK460, MK440
A GREEN power light is lit to indicate AC power is applied.
A YELLOW light is lit for each bank to indicate the battery is charging.
A GREEN light is lit for each bank to indicate the battery is fully charged and in maintenance mode.
A RED light for each bank is lit if any of the following apply:
    A) No battery is connected to an output lead. This may also indicate a blown fuse in the fuse holder.
    B) The battery is connected reverse polarity.
RED and GREEN lights are lit simultaneously for each bank if any of the following apply:
    A) A short circuit.
    B) The battery voltage is below 8.0 volts.
    C) A damaged temperature sensor on the output lead. The bank will stay in maintenance mode if this
    occurs.
    MK "D" Chargers
    On the "D" chargers:
Plugging in all lights come on monetarily while "reading" the batteries
Yellow: Bulk charge mode til battery reaches 75% of charge
Flashing Yellow: Absorption Mode, charging current tapers holding battery to 14.4V apx
Flashing Green : Maintenance mode, voltage goes to 13.4V
Green: Charger turns itself off after 24hrs and monitors battery
When battery voltage drops below 12.6V, charger will turn back on

I beleive my problem my be in the yellow fuse connector. Those things are tough to open. Any trick to it? The one I did get open was fine, but I still have one I can't get open.

Thanks for the post. I have a year old 330. Red and green appearing on bank three. Tried switching the batteries to see what would happen...both lights went on again with the different batteries...

    What to do next?

    Thx!

Check the voltage on both the batteries to determine if they have greater than 8V. If so, the charger has a 3yr warranty, so contact Minn Kota about returning. John

Swap the leads. If the problems stays with the battery, it's the battery. If the problem follows the leads, it's the charger.

Re: MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout (Jonestrollingmotor)

Thanks in advance for any help here...I have a MK 315 and am getting the RED and GREEN lights are lit simultaneously.

I completely blew it and left the boat on for 2 + weeks. New job so haven't been able to hit the water until now...but batteries were dead.

Cranking battery was all red but it looks like it has started taking a charge since it turned yellow.

Deep Cycles are still Red and Green (yellow is flickering as well)

Anything that I can do to get the deep cycles back? I have the Exide Marine Batteries and they ain't cheap.

Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated.

Re: MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout (strainbo)

Try connecting a good/charged battery in parallel with the discharged battery, let the charger "think" it's charging a good battery and will bring the battery above 8V, then you can disconnect the "slave" battery. John

I have the big Minn Kota charger in my Skeeter....4 bank MK 460 I beleive...one of the leads shows a connection problem....green and red light....I can wiggle the yellow fuse holder on the negative [black] wire and make it go off for a short period of time....is this something I can repair or have repaired???

Re: MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout (Bigg-Un)

On the 460, green and red means:
    A) A short circuit.
    B) The battery voltage is below 8.0 volts.
    C) A damaged temperature sensor on the output lead. The bank will stay in maintenance mode if this
    occurs.

Check the battery voltage, if OK, then swap that lead with another lead and see if the problem follows the lead or if it stays with the battery. This will tell you if it's a charger problem or a battery problem.

Re: MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout (Jonestrollingmotor)

No problem with the battery...if you put the leads on another battery you still have the same problem with that one set of leads...I am currently using another charger to keep that battery hot...my question is...can that yellow fuse holder thing be replaced on the negative [black] lead....

Re: MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout (Bigg-Un)

If the charger is less than three years old, it is still under warranty. I can't see the fuse holder causing your problem. If it's out of warranty, that set of leads is no good to you anyway so I would replace the fuse holder, if I was convinced it was bad. Before I did that, I would probably jump from the charger side of the fuse holder, through a fuse and to the battery and see if that solved the problem. John

Re: MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout (Jonestrollingmotor)

The charger is right at three years old but I have no way to verify its age as it was added by Skeeter to replace the three bank that came on some of the '06 I-class boats....thats a good idea about putting a jumper around the fuse holder...I will have to give that a try...I will continue to use the three banks that work until they go out....I will not buy another MinnKota to replace it with...3 years of use out of a $400+ charger is poor at best...I put a BPS charger in my last boat and it went 8 years for me and was still going when I sold the boat for a quarter of the price....

I have a MK210. Now it it won't power on at all. The lights come for about a second and then all go dark. Its was bought in June 2006 so its out of warranty. Is it worth trying to fix it ?

There isn't any serviceable parts inside. Check the fuses and see if the leads are "reading" the batteries.

Re: MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout (Jonestrollingmotor)

I have the green and red light showing on my 460 charger. I have swaped the leads and the problem followed the leads. Is there any fix. It is in a '07 Skeeter so it would be close to the 3 year warranty. Is there any way to tell if it is still under warranty?

Re: MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout (lm42079)

I had the same thing happen and all Minn Kota could tell me once I determined the leads had continuity was that it must be internal since it is a sealed unit.....lots of help that was. The unit is right at 3 years old and so I guess I'll go back to dual pro since I know they have customer service and will stand behind it. I was a little dissappointed to say the least....another $400 bucks!

Re: MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout (vtbasspro)

Ok, so here goes....found the problem....the thermistors on two banks had both come loose(must've been a friday sauter job) from the green lead that apparently checks the temperature of the charge/battery? So, re-sautered those two little guys and I'm back in business...you'll have to check that and cut the shrink wrap off to do it, but it may save you 400 buck if your batteries aren't the culprit!!

Re: MinnKota Battery Chargers/Light readout (vtbasspro)

Hey vtbasspro, I have a Minn Kota 330...2 of my leads are doing the same thing,(green and red lights both on) both are on my trolling motor batteries...My 3rd lead (cranking battery) is doing fine...Both batteries on the trolling motor are new though (deka), you mentioned "thermistors"...I dont see a green wire anywhere, is it under the shrinkwrap?...cause all that comes out of the shrinkwrap is a white and black wire...please help.
