    Gut Hook Removal Technique

I post this every spring because every spring someone seems to benefit from it. Follow the link to a gut hook removal technique that, in my experience, is 95% successful. I've only lost one fish in 5 years of using this technique. You may want to print off the attached if you never used it before or seen it done. Do it right and you'll be surprised how easily the hook comes out. You will never have to leave a hook in a fish again.

The illustration is with walleye but it works the same for bass.

I will definately have to try that! Hope it works. Looks way easier than the technique I've been using. And hopefully more productive! Thanks.

This technique is nothing short of magic. Works every time with surprising ease. You need to move fast though as it can be a lengthy process (compared to pop & release).

I tried this last summer and it worked like a charm! Fish was released with no injury or problems. Yes, please stick this to the top!

yes this works awesome, but I can do this ten times faster with the tool from Bass Pro that grabs the hook and you squeeze and if flips it around and pops it out.

Its called a Fish Hook Extractor

This technique works better, Than any other way I have found in 27 years! of bass fishing. My process of elimination lead to this. I'm so glad to see this posted, Every catch and release fisherman should know how to do this. However SkeeterDon is correct it can take time. So if theirs a tool that can do the same thing faster than i"d say try it. Here's too hookin em in the plate were they belong!

Been doing it this way for years. Works beautifully but we often use a pair of long-nose pliers to grab the hook instead of only using our fingers to grab the hook. Only time the system fails is when the hook goes in the bottom section where a fish's heart and main blood vessels are, I know that because I am a professional fish taxidermist.

Great article and it works great, but I don't think that's supposed to be a walleye in the pictures. I don't know too many fisherman that are brave enough to thumb-lip a walleye to remove a hook. They might try it once but it wouldn't take long to learn from that mistake.

I had a buddy show me this trick recently. He had one that ate a senko and I told him to cut the line, he said watch this! It worked almost effortlessly!
