    Thumbs Up

The one thing I would like to mention related to removing "gut-hooked" fishing hooks is to add barb-less hooks to your tackle arsenal, & especially on "catch & release" bodies of water. By using a barb-less hook you give the fish an addition chance of survival be it from initially getting hooked, or your unfortunate approach to landing the fish using a barb-less hook. Imagine the heart pounding moments when you hook and fight the biggest bass you have ever hooked and it is with a barb-less hook.

I've been using this method for many years and to add I use a pair of hemostats instead of pliers. They're much thinner and can get in places that pliers are a PIA.

Ooops! I have been doing this since I went to Canada with a friend who had little experience fishing worms for smallmouth. If you didn't set the hook as soon as they picked it up they swallowed it. It took us a couple of fish to come up with the "surgery" as we called it but once we had it we were able to save most of them. Great vid to show how to do it though.
