I ran the same setup...but one cable was so full of rust, it wouldn't loosen. Ended up replacing them, but this will be in my maintenance program in the future.

I did mine back in the spring, but used a pump sprayer from Wal~Mart to attach the hose too and force oil in the cables.
Just put a quart of oil in the sprayer, with the hose clamped over the end of the wand and the other end over the cable passed the groove.
Pump it up, pull the trigger and leave it for a hour or so, left one over night.
The pressure forces the oil in the cables.
It loosened up just like new.
It worked great without removing the cables from the tube.
I also used my rigging on a Venture and a Stratos too.

HOOK EM' AND COOK EM'
I did this last fall as my steering was getting pretty tight. I used automatic transmission fluid...which was recommended by the post I found way back. It worked great, though some fluid did continually seep out the back over time so be sure to clean the areas good after you finish.
Hey guys,
I know this is an old thread, and this is a long shot, but I am looking for cajuncopper, I think I am buying his old cajun 195 fish and ski, I would love to get a hold of him and talk to him about the boat. If anyone knows how to get a hold of him please let me know. I appreciate all the help in advance, thanks.
He hasn't been on since 2008 so I don't think he uses the boards anymore. I would try and send him an email or private message but it looks like the chances of getting a hold of him are slim to none.

Well another success story.
steering was very stiff. Used the pump up sprayer and marvel mystery oil.
worked great, steering is VERY easy now.
Thanks for the tip.......
Works for shift and throttle cables too
I did the same to mine and it worked well. I didn't even take the cables off just connected the hose on the other side of the motor. Kept in @ 65 psi. It took a couple of hours but it did work.. I am just wondering what the best lube going forward will be? Any suggestions?
I have used a product called Corrosion X best lube I have ever used. It will change rust and stop it. I used the recommended chain oil on my Honda dirt bike chain rusted in short order from not riding. Sprayed it with Corrosion X and it has set for nearly 6 months and not a sign of any rust.
I was under the impression that these cables (steering in particular), had a Teflon lining and petroleum based products would degrade this lining. Thus, lubrication would be a temporary solution to an ongoing problem. Please, if I am mis-informed, correct me.
