Tandem Trailer Tire change - must have

If you have a tandem axle trailer, wood screw some 2x4's togther in a pyramid with a flat top and stow it in your boat or tow vehicle. A stack of 3 on their sides will be enough lift to get the flat off the ground and the spare on if you pull the good tire on the same side up on the stack. It works great and a whole lot easier/faster than messing with a jack. Total cost if you have to buy the materials, about $5. Aggravation saved when you have to change one... Priceless!!!

I'll post a picture next weekend if not sooner

Where is the picture and how do you get it under the axle?

You put it in front of the good tire and drive up on it , that will raise the flat off the ground .

Sorry it took so long, it's either been raining or I've been fishing and getting home when it was too dark to take any pictures. Here's some shots of what I made. Just took some wood screws and cut up some 2x4's laying around and put it under the back seat of the truck.

here's the top view of my tire jack

Put it in front of the tire that isn't flat

And pull up on it, then put the tow vehicle in park and set the parking brake. If the front tire is flat, put this behind the back tire and back up on it.

If you make the bottom 2x4s a little longer so the tire will roll up on them first, they will probably stay in place very well. Tried a couple times on my drive way and they scooted a little bit a couple times before rolling up on it. For mine, 3 2x4s is perfect height to get just enough under the other tire to take it off an put on another one. If you aren't on pavement, might have to put a little pile of gravel under this to compensate for it sinking in a little.

    Get the idea?

I made this after my last flat, I found a few small logs on a wood pile near by and rolled up on them. What a pain! Of course, I had to put them back when I was done, just what I was in the mood for at dusk when I had 1.5 hour drive home.

Anyone get a chance to try it out? (hopefully not on a flat, but in the driveway)

Excellent! Sorry to hear about the flat, but I'm sure not dreading them as much as I used to!
