I just saw this post, haven't been on BBC much...I do glass and body work. I have to say you have done a good job with your repair. Looks good from pics! Congrats!

I see that this was posted a long time ago but it was such a great post and I've got some questions.
I'm trying to restore my '87 Bass Nautique, really just paint (gelcoat) the top and stripes on the side.
Also, I suppose I should do the trailer. I've got the fenders for it.
It's green/brown now with a gold flake.
I'd like to change it to bright blue with a silver flake or something close.
I'm seeing the procedure as:
1. Sand using a DA or orbital palm & 120 grit
2. Clean with acetone
3. Spray neutral gelcoat + pigment
4. Spray clear gelcoat + flake
5. Spray clear gelcoat
Is that right (in a nutshell)?
How many coats per . . . ?
I'm trying to do a cost analysis on the project.
How much base gelcoat + pigment would I need?
How much flake? .008 is good?
How much clear coat including what I'd need for the flake.
I'm trying to determine coverage (do I need a gallon or ???)
My Bass Nautique and a fully restored Bass Nautique

Next time lay down a clear coat then clear and flake follow with 2 clear and one final top. Going to flake and a little repair on a ranger reata 2250 SS soon and hopping to grow down a few gal. And follow with pictures.
Oh ya Duratec is a nust it will help lay out the flake.
Looks like it will catch fish,
