'86 Performance complete bassboat restore w/pics

Well guys, the work has officially begun.

In case you dont remember me, this is the link to the original post I made - "Thinking about a restoration".

    http://www.bbcboards.net...74554

On the day after Easter (Monday 9th), I got together with a cousin of mine who helped me get the motor off the boat. So far I have pulled the rubber from the rubrail and most of the hardware from the top cap, in preparation for lifting the cap. I'm planning to leave most of the electrical alone until I start raising the cap, that way maybe I can see it a little better to strip it out. I really havent been able spend a lot of time on it yet, as we have been busy most of the week and the weather has been terrible.

    Here are a few pics:

Good luck and welcome to the club. From your original post, I see you were wondering if it was a Venture. Your boat is a Starcraft. I have a copy of the original brochure. I have the Escort from the same line of bass boats (on the same page of the brochure). Yours is 16'6" and mine is 16'3" in length. I'm in the middle of a restoration too, but I'm not pulling the cap and all. I'm replacing the floors/carpet and doing a wet sanding job. FYI - Your boat (the Judge) set a S.O.R.A. speed record of 91mph in 1984 according to the brochure!

Steve H, I really appreciate that information , I think I like my little ole' boat just a little bit more now. A copy of your brochure would really be the bomb too!!! I really wasn't sure myself, if it was from Venture or not, I think the dealership I got it from told me that, but they were'nt sure either ( that was in 1997 ). There are no labels indicating specifically who made it that I can find. I have a hull ID stamped in aluminum on the right rear of the hull, the Coast Guard rating label and then this:

It says "Performance Plus" and under that, "Greenville, MS". This sticker is on the side of the steering console. In '97, I worked for a small company in Bastrop, LA and they actually sent me to Greenville one day to pickup a tractor part, so I asked the people if they knew anything about "Performance Plus", because I had just bought the boat 3 or 4 months prior, but the tractor part repair guys didnt seem to know of any place by that name, past or present.

As far as my restoration, I still have not been able to get to the next step, which will be raising the cap. I was on the road gettin my kids from their grandma's last weekend, this weekend we had services for death in wife's family. Hope to finally be able to get started again real soon, though.

I'd be glad to get you a copy of my brochure. Let me know how to get it to you. I called Starcraft from their website and gave them my hull ID. It was easy. The company has been bought and sold 7 times since our boats were made (I have an '87) and they don't make "bass boats" anymore. There was a plant in Delhi, LA; but if I had to guess, it probably got the "Performance Plus package" in Greenville, MS.

Any way good luck again with the project and post pictures. I'm trying to get a new camera so I can too, but all my $$ is going into the boat!! I just had a new steering system installed (old cable froze up and snapped), so I got side-tracked. Re-wire, wet-sand and re-carpet left to do, them I BACK!!

His boat is a Performance. When Starcraft bought them they started putting Starcraft on the side instead of Performance. Same boat though. I think one or some of the Venture guys did start the performance company, not sure.
