Hey guys I was wondering if any of you know how far and long of a run it would be to run from the Detroit river to Pelee Island?
It's about 30 miles open water. Worth it if you can make it.

I've got an 36 gallon gas tank, think I can get er done? Also where can I find a good map of the area?
TJ, I know they have fuel at the island. I think you can go on line to buy your Canadian ahead of time. It might be as good for you to go from the Port Clinton area and Island hop. If it's too rough, you have several islands to keep you company.
I have used the Hot Spot maps alot. I'm not sure if they are available for the Canadian portion. Get the Erie Islands Hot Spots and it will give you a decent idea of how far the run is. I will get you more info when I get home. I've got the maps in my boat. I have not made the run from Port Clinton, but I would guess it is a few miles closer than from the Detroit River. I see it from Kelly's Island a lot, and have thought about it a couple of times, but haven't done it. You a least have some closer shelter than a straight run over open water. Plus, I would think that Port Clinton (I'd go out of Mazurik) would be closer than going to the Detroit River. By the way, I'm from Wapak originally.

Hopoe it helps. I will let you know which map is best. I have like 3 different ones for this area (Islands, Bay and Western Basin)

You should be able to make it on a full tank....I think what he means by if you can make it is....that water can get big...real fast!!! It ain't no fun to make that run back in Biggggg water!!!
mtst4, Thanks for the help. Your right about getting there from Musuricks, but I have a tourny and we're launching from the Detroit river. I can fish lake St.Clair, the river itself or any part of lake Erie I'm crazy enough to run to. I know St.Clair has alot of nice smallies, but I've been told that better weights will probably come from around Pellee. 1st place prize is a new Triton with a 150 Merc on the back, so I might try to go to broke. But the top 7 move onto nationals for Fishers of Men national tourny trail. So I'm trying to get some stuff figured out for now. My tourny is in late Sept. and I haven't even been to the Detroit river or St. Clair. Have a some experience on Erie though. But it sounds like one of those infamous Erie runs on the big water.
just make sure you leave lots of time to get back and you should be fine... the last strien I fished out of cleveland most of the top ten made the fifty mile one way run all four days. It can be worth it if you know where and how to fish.... I do but I run a z boat and don't like to get wet.. now when I had that stratos I would go in a heart beat... good luch and make sure you have all your safty gear..
Are you talking about pelee John???
yes pelee from cleveland crazy bunch...
smallmouths are on the flats what a day of fun

What dates in the fall are good for smallmouth on Lake St. Clair. Never been, planning a trip up in the fall for the first time. Any suggestions, patterns, areas to fish, launch a boat and where to stay close to good fishing.
Thanks,
Dave
The last two weeks in sept seem to be the best. get up into the Sait Clair river and hold on to your rod. a 20lb sack is eazyly done on the right area.
What is the pattern for the river this time of the year, lures, presentations, structure? All catch and release.
Thanks,
Dave
I love the river..it is the only place I care to fish come August on...You have to find the right place...but a drop shot rig or 3 way in 30-50 foot of water...usually right in the shipping lanes...I do not believe guys will jump on here and tell you where...shoot me an IM or email...
