    Re: Spillway@Belle River Reports (cjdauth)

Went today, Water was coming in, muddy in some places not too bad further back. Had a little green tint. Fished 9:30 to 1:00 caught 3 that all measured 13 3/4" on watermelon red baby brush hog. Also threw black/blue jig and chart/white spinner. Started in 21" canal and then went to West Fork. Didn't have many boats there, 2 boats said they had 2, don't know if they were keepers.

    Re: Spillway@Belle River Reports (Chad)

Fished club tourney @ Belle River Saturday, 7-22. HOT!! Water temp was 93-94. Duckweed everywhere...was very interesting running old river as there were no boat trails through it, just solid duckweed in spots. Since I had never been, this was a little white knuckle ride for me. Anywho, ran up into a dead end off zigzag, and it was 'dead' alright...went into zigzag itself and caught a 13" on a white buzzbait..left there and fished reed canal and had one on a redshad worm about 12". Boat traffic started muddying up reed, so went into big pigeon @ reed. Fished down a ways towards the blue camp, and hooked a big gar on a crankbait. It was about 6ft long, 8 inches around.
The 'beak' on this thing was about 3in across...it came up out of the water and looked like a tarpon; it was silver and irridescent. That was the highlight of the trip. Caught a goo after moving into postillion. Water was moving in places, fish were not co-operating. First place (2 people, allowed 5 fish each) was 3 fish for 5.95lbs. Not many fishermen out there..ones I talked to weren't catching much either. Seems like the trees you can fish only have 2-3 ft of water around them, so I guess the whole thing is a little low. Winning stringer was caught around 'west fork' (wherever that is!) Had the hot horn come on after maneuvering through postillion at low speed. I guess the 94+ water doesn't cool that well.

    Dang, sorry to hear that.

The spillway has not impressed me a bit this summer.

At what level of river stage is the spillway considered ideal as far as amount of water? What stage is it considered 'high' or 'low'?

I like to catch it around a lil below 3' on the morgan city gauge falling (slow). Anything around 3 is ok for the areas i fish.

Yea, fished a club tourney two weeks ago. Started in Old River, fished up through zig zag, reed, pigeon cuts, etc. Did not catch one bass all day! Terrible!

    Re: Spillway@Belle River Reports (FLIPPINB)

Went to the 21 inch canals today, and all around the square canals caught 5 keepers 2 that were 19" inch 4 lbs the rest were 14.5" 1.5-2.5 lb. only picked em up on the bank couldn't find any on stumps or points. Water was pretty clear I'm new to that area but it looked high to me.
