Fished the Tickfaw River today, 3 hours without a bite. Tried a few spots on the main river and one deadend I found for the first time. Fished jig, worms, baby brushhog and spinners, even tried the pink one. Thought it would be a good day the way the weather was.
Well I'm 0 for 2 went fish Petit Amite and Black Lake Canal today without a bite. 2 trips to local waters with no fish so its time to start traveling a little further to fish. Even HC spinners didn't help.
I fished off petit amite for about 15minutes on the 4th (mostly running the boat)...I had a couple of hits, lost 1 nice fish right at the boat. They seemed fairly active in the middle of the day where the sun was shining. I was surprised to get anything since everyone keeps saying how bad the fish kill was around the blind river. Of course, I was using my secret Amite river weapon too - hardly fair to the fish.
Hey Jason good catch, would you be willing to tell me which areas you fish, because I have no luck around there.
Thanks for the info, I've only been up that way once. I usually launch in Diversion and head downriver. Will have to try that way next trip. Maybe we can hook up one day, I usually fish alone.
Same here...
You might be better off launching at Fred's or preferably Big John's. Big John's is $5, but I barely have to run the motor when I launch there - and it's not nearly as crowded. The diversion is always such a mess these days.....
I'd started fishing your area around petit amite and blind river last year and did pretty well, how much have you fished since the storms? There seemed to be a lot of fish moving down there a couple of weeks ago, but people keep saying how bad the fish kill was out there.
Only been there twice since the storms. Thinking about fishing today or tomorrow morning, will try big Johns.
Decided not to go, the perch in my pond wouldn't bite in post front conditions.
Action slowly coming back to the Blind River area. I'm actually starting to see movement in the water. I'm a new member and fished the Maurepas system as much as possible. I have caught a few fish since the storms catastrophic loss of the bass population by watching the weather and fishing on what appears to be good days. Last month. a few topwater fish, but mostly soft plastics and jigs fished slow. Will likely hit the River this weekend to see if we can snag a few and try to find an area or depth with concentrated fish, and possibly snap some photos.
Welcome to the site Zane, I can use all tips and will post when I go.
fished blind river for about 3 hrs on sunday - pretty slow - 5 or 6 bites, landed 3
pretty nice fish (really nice day to be on the water)
I also fished Blind River Sunday and ended up with 6 sacalait and 4 bass. All bass came on a ???????? frog and the sacalait on a black/chartreuse tube jig. Also saw a porpoise that must have lost his way and was almost as far in as the interstate.
My 2 nephews and I put the old Blazer in at Big John's and fished for a few hours. This was mostly a trip to run my motor some. We managed to boat three on soft plastics. They were extremely small--I almost wonder how they got their mouths around a 3/0 hook. We had a good time though. This was the most bass I have ever caught on the Amite.
has any body been catching anything around blind river area or amit area
Hey Kit welcome aboard, can't help much haven't been there since April, working too much.
been in coyell bay and being doing pretty good her lately.
I thought the same things so I looked it up on google earth and found it. Looks like if you put in at Freds and then run south then take the first big cut to your left. Go down that bayou until you cross under Hwy 16 and then run another mile or two and you are at Colyell bay.
