Hmmmm, I wonder how a float and fly would do in this situation?

Re: Kinkaid Lake, Jackson Co (Heavy D)

I fished Kinkaid April 3rd for the Mid State Bass Anglers open. The weather was awesome for a whole week before the tournament.

At 4:00am tournament morning the sky turned gray and heavy rain came down up until take off. This made for some tough conditions early on.

The sky cleared and turned to partly cloudy and beautiful.

    Temp: 76 Degrees
    Water Temp: 62
Depth fished: No deeper than 8 ft
Water Conditions: Muddy mid lake to north end, clear on south end with 2 ft vis.

Turns out that 15 minutes before the weigh in my partner and I figured out how to catch em. Slow rolling a spinner bait just above the vegitation on points on the South end.

We were able to weigh in 3 nice ones and caught all 3 within 15 minutes.

It only took a little over 13 lbs to win the thing.

We threw Tubes, jigs, creature baits, crank baits, and come to find out they wanted a Spinner bait.

Launched at Johnson Creek. Best fish were caught in 4-8 ft of water in the brush closed to the end of the no wake area. Caught 12 fish. 5 Keepers(over 16"). Best fish weighed 5.1

All were caught pitching a sweet beaver w/ 1/4 ounce weight. No takers on moving baite. Water temp 78-80 and water is stained. Lake is also down about a foot.

*Word of warning to those with glass boats in Johnson Creek. We barely made it through the entrance form the ramp due to the low water.

Has anyone fished here recently? I've never been and may meet a friend there over the holiday weekend. Any tips would help.

Ask this question over at the IL Bass Club Forum. You'll probably get a much quicker response.

Fished Kinkaid 10/4/14. Post cold front conditions. Low in the morning was 39 up to 55 in the afternoon. Wind wnw 15-25mph.THe water temp was about 70 degrees, it dropped 4 degrees over night. The bite was slow till about 10am. Prior to the cold front fish were still being caught in summer patterns. Some teams reported catching fish in the grass. We caught the majority of our fish in the staind water using jigs and spinnerbaits, around wood with grass and deeper water close by. We ended up catching two 3lb fish and several that were just short of the 16" limit. Overall, it wasn't a bad day. I think we wasted too much time fishing patterns that produced before the front came through. Most teams as well as my team caught all keepers in a 1-2 hr period.

Fished Kinkaid 3/2/18. It was 35 degrees at 7:30 when we hit the water, water temp was about 45 degrees in main part of lake. Water was about a foot or two high, clear in main lake, but very muddy up the Johnson creek arm. Water temp by noon was 50 degrees in the shallows. Big fish were still holding close to cover in 10-15 foot of water, couldn't be enticed to strike. A couple of dinks were biting in the 3-4 foot depth range in the afternoon when the sun was high in the clear part of the lake.
