Re: Report's For Lake Lanier (Astro Angler)

My brother and I are thinking about launching out of Charleston Park this weekend to do a little fishing. Never been out on Lanier before... any tips? Which way should we head? Thanks for the help!

Fished there 25/26 Oct. Rocky points with Green Pumpkin trick worm or u-tail in about 15-20 ft. Some people are saying CottonCordell Bone colored redfins but it didn't work for me.

Did alright that weekend, caught 5 btw 2-4 lbs.. We were fishing the mouths of the creeks and back into them to get out of the wind. All caught on spinnerbaits and drop shot rigs in 10-20'. Thanks for your help!

Headed to Lanier for the first time in a year. I have only fished there a few times and any help would be appreciated. I know top water is the way to go no and plan on staying below Browns Bridge. You can email at rewill73@yahoo.com with help. I will post what our day was like when I return. Thanks.

Re: Report's For Lake Lanier (rwill99)

I'd hit the entire side of Flat creek just past the Balus area on the west side. There are deep coves that see a lot of action. Lot's of points to fish as well. I'd fish that point right next to the marina close to Browns Bridge too. Good point.

Depending on the wind, if it is windy, I would hit the longer coves that the wind is blowing into. Bait fish usually follow the plankton and where the bait fish go so do the bigger fish...like 25lb strippers!

They seem scattered to me. On rocks, near pockets with sand, on docks, and even occasional schooling here and there. Any suggestions?

Where are they at? Thinking about heading out Friday morning or maybe an evening venture later that day. Any consistent schooling action in the mornings? If so, where? Thanks!

Schooling action on the main lake points. Tied into a large stripper at one point. Caught some on a crankbait, others on Zara spook and a few more on worms. Not a bunch for the day, but still had enough bits and several catches to make it fun.

Re: Report's For Lake Lanier (Astro Angler)

Saturday morning found the fish on main lake points and structure. I caught several today with the largest in about 15-20ft of water on points and straight down on structure. I caught smaller ones in the shallows where there was underwater brush that was now flooded AND where a small creek entered the lake. Even caught a crappie. Fun day and the cloudy conditions helped keep it cool. Used a Shakey head and a rooster tail.

Have never had the opportunity to fish Lanier. Was up that way this weekend and went right past the Buford exit for the lake.. My wife wasn't amused when I asked her if we could ride over and take a look...

Re: Report's For Lake Lanier (Bassin Billy)

Okay, so the pattern I found Friday morning was shade+20-35' of water+jig or shakeyhead worm=good spotted bass. Fished the Balus creek area with a man and his 8 year old who could stay out on the water even if he wasn't catching any fish. He did great! Anyways, there wasn't any topwater morning bite to speak of and we threw just about everything. Too hot at the moment so look deep!

Re: Report's For Lake Lanier (Astro Angler)

Seems that my best choice was to stick with 3/8oz jig (pumpkin/brown) with a YUM creature trailer that I cut in half. The other action I had was in shallow water with submerged brush near a creek using a rooster tail. But the jig outperformed both the rooster tail and the shakey head worm today. Rocks+Shade+deep water+some kind of point=the most fish. Fished the Balus/Flat Creek area. 7 total from 6am to noon with my best 5 going 9lbs.

How do you do that without getting hung up or do you just have extra on hand when you can't retrieve them?

Thanks Fisher. I don't fish Lanier, but try to look at all reports. Sure would be nice to see more activity on the fishing reports boards.

I know the feeling. Hunting season is over so I should be back on the lake soon...soon as the sub zero temp's come up to at the freezing point. Brrrrrrr!
