It is actually a 6" mid (from memory). I think this is a 4 litre motor. It was so powerfull that it was banned by the UIM.

Bad thing is there is no shifting. You turn the key and instantly start hauling @zz. Not great for anything except for racing.
I beleive the F1's were totally different motors than the 3.6 and 4.0L V8 OMC's you are talking about.

That could be a good thing.

Looks an awful lot like a Merc Speedmaster lower doesn't it.

    THey were good for 140 to 150mph on a 20' tunnel. 0 - 100mph in 5 seconds as well.

    Re: (ProcraftMike)

Not Merc......that lower-unit is 100% OMC guys. Merc NEVER had an answer for this motor. In fact, Mercury cried and moaned so much that they got the sanctioning body to change the course size to give Merc an advantage. They got the courses shortened with tighter turns and shorter straightaways wich gave the smaller/lighter quicker winding Mercs an edge.

I emailed them about this motor......WHEW the starting bid is way too much for my blood. I wish I had an extra 25K laying around though

I wish I could see under the engine cover. I'll bet that is an engineering work of art.
Thanks for the pictures. How many hours can you get until the next rebuild?

    Re: (Jim285pro)

Mercury had absolutely NO answer to this engine. In fact a hydraulic water brake was built into some of the Merc powered boat sponsons so that they did not have to reduce RPM on the engine when cornering. Their engine was always kept at full throttle. The V8 torque was astounding. I may be getting some under cover photos soon. Here's hoping.

He's looking at a start price of $25K which includes a heap of spares, cyllinder sleeves, prop shaft etc.
