No posts on this topic in over 4 years...nobody fishes the Carolina Rig anymore? I'm going to give it another go. It worked for me before, some years ago. Got my eye on a reel (Lew's Super Duty wide spool 8:1), and looking for a rod. Under $200 for sure, better yet under $150. Thinking of a Denali Attax, possibly Phoenix Maxim, or ARK Viper. I'd go straight for an ALX, but it's just not in the budget.
Just had a custom 7'9" Medium fast rod made. Blank is a Cousins tackle. Rod is sweet. Tried using a shorter rod 7'5 Loomis Glx ,, didnt like and not long enough.

Well, I ordered the reel I want. Going to use my otherwise unused flipping stick for awhile, at least. It's a 7'6" MH Shimano speedmaster...nice old rods, IMO. Have been intending to use 14 lb Super Silver Thread, but could be willing to try braid, probably 40 lb PP Slick 8. I'm looking forward to getting the reel and getting it out on the water. Maybe it's just Spring Fever. Or Saturday Night Fever?
St. Croix LTB 7'3" MH/F with a Daiwa SV103H and 40# Sufix 832 w/FC leader. May try a Shimano Chronarch MGL HG on that rod s well.
