This is the first custom rod I have built. It is a Shikari SHII MB 663 (6'6" MH). I am a loomis guy but am building on some less expensive blanks to start with. Nothing to fancy to start with. Fuji ECS reel seat, Fuji guides I recycled off a broken rod. Almond color thread on the wraps. Cork butt cap. Rod is not terribly heavy, espically when paired with a Chronarch 50mg.

It sounds like your off to a good start. Work on that pic for us.

Being a loomis guy you'll be glad to know before Loomis was bought by Shimano, all of shikaris' blank were developed by bobby loomis, the son of gary. And really the shikaris' are splashes of loomis blanks. You are getting a good blank at a great price. Also now that Loomis has no more of his No-compete clause with shimano. Loomis bought shikari back and now calls it Advanced tubular composites. So you can actually get a real loomis blank again.
