guide sizes?

i have not made my first rod yet but i am doing my research. i was wondering how do you figure out guide sizes? i am going to make some bass rods(some spinning and some casting). is there a chart to follow, is it based on the size, is it based on the use of the rod? i have seen that people say about 1 per foot plus the tip. any info would help. thanks in advance. sean

I wish it was that simple. The books for guide placements are only a guide to start with. You just need to make sure the lines do not touch the blank when your rod is bent, for spinning rods you want the line to have rounded curves and not sharp peaks between eyes.
